I grew up in Rockport and loved every moment fishing there when I was younger, but I joined the military at 18 and I finally have returned to see old family three years later, problem is alot of my child hood memorys involved fishing. I used to wade fish off of Estes Flats with spoons, shrimp tails, and live bait, but because of recent construction I cant fish at my old fishing hole. I took leave from 05Jul-20Jul and was hoping to catch some nice redfish but after trying for 3 days and only catching hardheads, a few small specks and some other junk fish I'm looking for advice. I went out on the Gulf King today and caught my limit of Kings and Snapper when I saw a sticker on the window advertising this forum so I thought I'd give it a shot. If anyone can give me some advice on some good spots(minus the boat...im stationed at Ft.Hood) or would like to take me out...(haha I won't say no)I'm willing to do anything to catch some good fish. Thanks and appreciate your time

Hey what's up man. I guess I can kinda relate, I am stationed in Del Rio right now, and I Just spent a week in Rockport where I have been fishing since I was a little kid. Thankfully, I have never had a 3 year hiatus from there, but it has changed and grown up so much in recent years!

I fished a lot last week and I had no luck in getting into the fish. It looks like a few people here found em, but nothing great. Everyone I talked to down there seemed to do poorly as well. I think the weather has them all stirred up and turned off. Hopefully the weather has been getting better for ya.

In terms of where to go or what to use, as always find the baitfish by looking for the nervous water, or the birds. Cooler deeper water might help. I hear people did ok around Mud Island. We found lots of bait on the NW side, but no bites. I can tell you that I did not have any luck with spoons, live shrimp, top waters, or Norton sand eels. So try something differn't than those!
