everett69, You will get a lot of advice on this topic. The only adjustments I make are: set the sensitivity at about 80% (you need to play with it), Zoom in 2x and then use the factory settings. You may need to adjust the brightness and contrast.

I would PM BaitFish...I know he is fishing this week and may not have computer access, but he is a great guy and will get back to you. He knows almost everything about Lowrance units and can accutrately answer any q's you have.

everett, those long lines on the second pic, are fish. The long lines occur when you are at a stand still or barely a drift. The first pic was taken from a reading I took as I moved up onto a hump. I was moving between 3 to 4 mph. To get defined arches, you must be moving, but not to fast or the arches will change to vertical lines.

To check the current software in your unit, press MENU twice, scroll down to System Set Up, press ENT, scroll down to Software Information and press ENT. A screen will pop up that displays your units model, software version and build.

To update your unit, simply insert an SD card into a reader connected to your computer. Download the applicable update from this page http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/
Save it to your SD card, remove the card and insert it into the card bank on your Lowrance unit (make sure the unit is off anytime you either insert or remove an SD card). Once you power your unit up, the update will automatically upload into your unit. Good luck and if you have any questions, such as taking screen shots of sonar readings, let me know thumb

I just reset mine on my LMS-480 back to the fact. settings. I'm able to see alot more now than before. I do see alot of noise but that's fine, I can see the fish in the noise.
