Blogged the trip here and posted more photos here.

The fish were small but feisty, that was a lot of fun!

I got an idea for a variation on foam spiders that may or may not amount to anything. We shall see.

Those ducklings have been getting in the way a lot lately. Whenever I fish there I have a bunch of the little things following me around and interfering with the fishing. I'm thinking of having roasted ducklings for dinner soon.

Cliff

Just use the old pearow trick, bring a sack of grain and dump it out. All the ducks will be more than preoccupied and then fish in peace (except for the mooching egret).

Nah, I'll just catch some ducklings, clean them, stuff them, roast them, eat them, then sell the feathers to fly tiers.

That is the case. That reel is a Dennison, holds about thirty feet of line.

Regular fly tackle in spots like that is tantamount to rabbit hunting with a .30/06

Au contraire Monsieur Rhyne, they have some very nice bluegill in those lakes and I regularly use my 7', 3-wt and have a lot of fun with it. A few weeks ago I was using a #12 prince nymph there and caught a 2# bass on it, using my 3-wt.

The larger bluegill have moved to deeper spots by now, but they can still be caught early in the morning near the shoreline.

Right, Cliff. A 1# bluegill puts up a bigger battle than a 2# largemouth bass. Fighting a big bluegill is like trying to reel in a hubcap while it's still attached to the car. LOL!

Cliff

I'd consider a 3 weight a fine rod for that lake. I would not consider a 5 or 6 to be much fun, that's my view on it.

A 5,6 or 7-wt is fun if you're bass fishing. I've caught bass up to 5# there. fish

Yep there are some pretty decent ones there. I remember during their spawn I caught a nice one around 3# in the south pond.

But this time of year unless you show up that at dusk, and throw heftier flies, all you catch are probably going to be small gills.
