There are some people in this world who I dont think can ever be "happy". They are not happy unless the have something to biotch and complain about. Therefore meaning that can never be totally trruely happy. My dad (who is great and I love) is one. He cant be happy unless he has something to complain about. Lucky for him he has been a fan of the Texas Rangers for their entire exsistent, so he has had that little gem to complain abouyt for YEARS!!! I have another firend that isnt ever happy no matter what, he get a rebate check and complains because he has to figure out where to spend the money...I mean, really???? I guess I am th opposite way, I am happy for the sake of being happy usually....Athough my bitching about someone bitching is kinda the whole point of this post isnt it??? Damn I am turning into my old man.....

Define happy. Your happy may not be someone else's happy. If everyone's happy were the same it would be like a one giant psych ward with everyone on a Thorazine drip...cept me cause I just jump out the window Chief Bromden busted out. grin

My father-in-law is like, I swear you could drop a million dollars in his lap and tell it's tax free money and he can do whatever he wants with it, and he would bitch about it...

He bought a tract of land out in West Texas and he bitches about owning it... You bought it, if you dont like it sell it...

2 things I do every day...
1. learn something new - no matter how significant
2. laugh at something - yourself, someone else, etc

Those 2 things will help keep you right.

Fatty: Your typing skills really only start going out the door after 4pm. Here's a thought...get voice recognition software, invite Cave over and have a post off smile

"invite Cave over and have a post off"

That just doesn't even sound right......

To answer your question, Fatty, some people just revel in misery. Their's or other's, makes no difference. Think back a while to when you first emailed me. You've come a long way, grasshopper.

Good point. To some it's only money that makes them happy. One of my brother-in-law's isn't happy unless it's the biggest LCD TV (72"), most expensive bottle of wine, the best hotel room, or the largest suite on a cruise. Most of all, he must be "celebrated" by those around him (his words). To say the least, I don't associate with him. And haven't in over 5 years, even though he lives less than 5 minutes away, and we belong to the same club. If he walks in, I walk out.

All I want is my wife, our dogs and a little cabin on a lake. Nothing fancy. Seems I spent the first third of my life goofing off, second part getting stuff and the third part paying it off. Next phase is to sell the stuff and live modestly surrounded by the things that really make me happy. Happiness is a state of mind...or a warm gun depending on my mood. grin

Myself and Dr. Carlton Maxwell have devoted many hours studying the pursuit of "happiness". Here is what we have found.

1. Some of it is due to genetics. Ever wonder about the person who stays calm in a crisis while everybody else is going berserk? Some people are just "built" that way. Same thing goes for some of the people who are happy. Regardless of what is going on, some people are just going to be happy or unhappy.

2. Some of it is cultural. In the Northeast, biatching and moaning is just another way of making small talk. A lot of it doesn't mean anything.

3. Truly happy people are contented in these areas: their relationships, they live where they want to live, they have adequate shelter (food, drink, housing). If you're screwed up in any of these areas, you're most likely not that happy.

We have to meet some day, John. You think like me. My wife of 35 years, dogs (3), and the little cabin on the lake are now ours, along with a 18 month old granddaughter, another one coming in a month, my son getting married next spring. Family. Those are the blessings that define me. Not things.
