both were about 2.5 lbs. Caught on Gulp Earthworms and #10 Mustad cricket hooks(finally found something the tilapia will eat in this pond).

It's too bad that the place letting me fish this pond doesn't want any of the tilapia taken, as I'm sure these would eat quite nicely.

You should educate them on healthy lake numbers. Taking certain size fish makes for a MUCH better lake/pond.

well in tx it is illegal to release tilapia because they are invasive. Perhaps you should let them know and you can get some nice dinner out of it

I dont think that applies to a private pond--besides I would not want to go up to someone nice enough to let you fish on their property and say "Um you're breaking the law" hammer

this place has actually told me I can take as many small bass as I want to out of there. I took a couple ice chests full out of there back in the spring when I could transport them alive, and I've cleaned a mess of them as well.

The tilapia are neat because the ones you see are spawning all the time, and you have to annoy them into biting just like spawning bass. Earlier in the spring I saw a bass bed between 2 tilapia beds, and the bass and tilapia would take turns chasing each other away. Made me sad because the male on the bed was 2-3 lbs (a huge fish period for this pond, much less that it was a male), and the female was 6-7; never could get either to bite. I would guess this is the almost 6 lber I posted the pic of last week. The 2 bass were on that bed for about 2 weeks.

Another funny thing is that I think I've caught that lighter tilapia about 3 times this year. It's so easy to see in the pond, and it's the only lighter one I've seen in the pond. It's always in that corner of the pond as well.

Those are some nice Talapia! You're really lucky to have permission to fish a pond that has 'em that size.

Congratulations, & Good Fishin',
