Okay guys, I wrote about this 4 months ago. I bought a used boat, the engine blew in 3 months, and they wanted an arm and leg to fix it. I payed the price got it fixed and has not sounded good since. I took it in on monday to have them listen to the engine, because it sounded like it was running bad. They said nothing was wrong with it, fixed a wheel bearing, put in a new drain plug, and gave me a $150 bill. I asked them why they worked on the wheel, and they said I had messed it up (they are the only people that have done any work on the boat and I sure didnt touch a wheel!) So another guy speaks up while im talking to the service director and says, "thats the price, thats what your paying if you want your boat, you aint gettin no handouts" We kinda argued a bit and I went to get my boat and he came out and was hollering and cussing me and acting like he wanted to fight. Well I just ended up paying it and left. Next day my ENGINE BLEW AGAIN!!!!!!! What would you do???

I certainly don't want to take my stuff there to get fixed. Do us a favor and let us know what shop you had this problem with.

I can relate to that, took my boat in to wolfe marine in tomball because it wouldn't start, got charged over $800.00 for them to replace timing base, a week later went to lake and it still wouldn't start so took it back and they said ignition switch was bad so installed a new one, so a week later same thing but this time took it to stracks marine and they told me the timing base was bad so had them put one on and they gave the the one they took off and it was not new and I have had no trouble since stracks replaced the timing base, the guy at wolfes now claims that was not the one he installed

I took my boat to Bossier City next to the altel center, I had to file a BBB report to take care of some issues. You guys need to start reporting the work issues to the BBB it does help and they the business will respond. I will not ever go back either and I tell everyone my story who will listen.

Did you sign a work order approving the work on the wheel? Did you give them verbal approval for them to work on the wheel? Sounds like you took it in for motor work, not trailer work. If you did not sign anything approving the work and gave them no verbal approval on the trailer work, you should have left your boat there an consulted a lawyer concerning the trailer wheel. Since you paid it, there probably aint much you can do at this point. Did they have a warranty for the motor work? I would name the shop on here.

I almost left my boat there, but I was so afraid that I could make them mad and they would do something to it...probally just a lil over worried, I did leave it for a bout an hour after the argument. Then broke down and paid the $150 and got it. The thing is, I wasnt even gonna argue about the money, I just wanted to know why they had to replace the wheel bearing!

Guys, I dont really know what to do, i hate to stir up a mess, but I have spent a ton of money on this boat and they are rude, and short, and when I say he cussed me out im talking like F*** you, G** D***, and all that junk. I know you probally thinkin I would have had to do something to provoke it, but I really didnt. I did question them fixing a wheel when I took it in, for the third time for engine noise. I told them something didnt sound right and they assured me it was all okay!

you should def file a complaint with the BBB. It will get results. Might not get your money back but will at least let other people know what they did to you. Alot of times, a company will go ahead and refund some or all of your money to avoid getting on the BBB unresolved complaint list.

Consult an attorney would be my advice. Take them to court and I would recommend also contacting the Better Business Bureau about the engine problems and them changing out that wheel bearing without your permission.

MadAngler, I have used East Texas Marine in Flint many times. Comming from Tyler its before you get to the boat center on 155. They have always fixed only what needed to be fixed and always done it right. If you go there ask for Larry.

wish I had a better idea, but to get any kind of satisfaction (without breaking any laws), you'll need a lawyer.
burns my biscuits just reading about it.

I would at least consult an attorney to see if you have a legal recourse. That is the only way to know for sure.

man, i sure hate to hear that.
makes all of us "in the business" look bad. All i can say is, you guys need to do some research on which boat place to go to, BEFORE YOU GO.
that's why we are all on the TFF. tell your friends about the TFF. Lot's of really good people here and good mechanics! There may not be anything you can legally do, without costing you a ton of money. I guess it's lesson learned and just tell as many people about that place. You may even contact the local tv and radio stations. write a letter to the editor in the local paper about your experience there. it will come back to "HAUNT" them in the long run.
i wish ya the best!

Get a hold of some TV news consumer reporter. They will rake em over the coals, and then through the ringer.

Tommy with Rockwall Marine must be a millionaire. For every shop with an impeccable reputation like his there seems to be 96% of all others that don't. I just don't get it.

When you buy a boat the first thing you need to do is make friends with a good outboard mechanic. Stop by and visit on a regular basis, sorta like an auto mechanic.
