I bought a Suburban a few months ago. Now is the best time to buy a truck.
Fuel is such a emotional thing. People are horrified to see gas over $4 per gallon but then buy a latte at Starbucks every morning without blinking an eye. When you look at the numbers you may find that buying a truck is the right thing.
For example, we had a 99 Honda Odyssey. We were getting 16mpg mixed driving. I did some research and found that we would get around 14mpg doing the same kind of driving in a 1500 4x2 suburban. Looking at how many miles per year we put on the van I did the math and found out that at $5 per gallon it costs $37 more per month to drive a suburban than our minivan.
So I went out and bought a suburban at half the trade in value and sold our minivan. Now we can take the whole family, and the boat to the lake.

I laugh at people that have a paid off truck then go out and buy a new honda for the gas mileage. Before you just had a gas bill. Now you have a gas and a car payment. X2, We made the last payment on my wife's Infinity QX4 two weeks ago. For the life of me I cannot understand anyone trading in a paidoff vehicle just to save a few dollars in gas money. I have eight more payments on my Sport Trac and do not intend to replace it either.

Now you have a gas and a car payment. yes but i was going to buy a new truck so i would still have had a payment probably a lil higher than the one i have now but now i spend less in gas. now no its not wise to buy a car just to save on gas but i was going to get a new veihical anyway. right now i'm saving close to $300 a month on gas vrs before i got the car payment is around 400 and insurance for the 2 wnet up about 15 per month from what i was paying before. so now i have my paid off truck that will last a good while since i'm not driving it daily, plus a new car that i am driving daily and i am only spending about 115 more each month where if i would have gotten a new truck the entire payment would be the extra cost each month due to no gas savings.

People are horrified to see gas over $4 per gallon but then buy a latte at Starbucks every morning without blinking an eye. Is this why Starbucks is closing 600 Stores... haha, Just kidding. It is an emotional thing and I think alot of folks are pulling back on some luxury items.

According to that article, I should get a scooter. What I want to know is how many people drives a scooter in Texas. During the day if theres no AC in the truck, I am not going anywhere.

Does anyone have a suburban that gets 53 mpg? I do... well, that is my "effective" mpg when I figure in what carpooling is doing to help me save gas on my work commute. I only have to drive 26 miles a day round trip but I also only have to drive the suburban one week a month (4 people in pool). The other three weeks, my commuting gas cost is $0. If I average all my other driving, I figure my suburban gets at least an effective 38 mpg. Cant beat that and have something to tow your boat at the same time! It may not work for everyone, but it's helping me justify keeping the big V8 and not purchasing a smaller car.

I have to buy something. I'm thinking about a car since I have a Tahoe to pull the boat with. It's either going to be a VW Jetta diesel or a Honda Civic for gas mileage purposes. Neither of them are what we really want but both seem to get great gas mileage. I'm thinking that either one of those would be a much better choice than what I really want which is another truck. I really want either the new Chevy 1/2 ton or the Toyota Tundra. The gas mileage difference is significant, especially with as many miles as my wife puts on cars. Monthly savings on gas vs. truck would be pretty significant.

this kind of comparison cracks me up! How can you compare the two? do you buy 50 Latte's at a time? I bought a Suburban a few months ago. Now is the best time to buy a truck.

I don’t doubt it. But we don’t have to buy Latte’s. I guess that’s one of the reasons they are closing so many Starbucks stores.

Not to mention the maintance, insurance and up keep of 2 vehicles. My vehicles are paid for before I pick them up. It Still hurts at 4.00 per gallon of gas and 4.50 per gallon of diesle. I did down size my boat. I do not pay 4.30 per gallon of gas to go 1 mile per gallon the water any more. The battery companys have never been happier now though. I went to a 36 Volt system. As well as bought a golf cart to stay green around here.

Clean motor!! It just needs to be in a cleaner enviornment. (The dusty fire wall leads me to believe that you have never unleashed the beast.)
P.S. Gas milage???
It looks alot like my old 2.0 Liter Merc. Except for yours only has 1 2B carb. mine had 3. It would get about 1 MPG Full Throttle.
