I'm a little curious. I have never owned a diesel but what would be the max amount of time you would leave your truck running if you knew you were going to be using it again. I was having lunch the other day and a guy left his running 45 mins. I thought that seemed a little excessive. There has to be a time period where shutting it off makes more sense then letting it idle.

I left here about 7 and went to Academy, and got all the things I needed, and I left about 8:30. I got back in the truck and realized I needed diesel.. I find a gas station and pull in and jump out of the truck, put my card in and start pumping my diesel.

This guy in a little car pulls up and starts filling up, and he sticks his head around the pump, and he says why must you leave your truck running. I said well probably because it's a diesel and I dont like to turn it off and on, 4 million times a day.

He said, well you know that your burning up fuel as your sitting there, and I said, I didnt realize you were paying for my fuel. Well he got his panties in a knot over that statement. He got all red faced and said its guys like you who are hurting our economy by driving those big trucks and causing all the global warming.

The pump stopped, so I put my card back in to get my other 75.00 dollars worth of diesel and he said that's what I am talking about, you have to pump twice to fill it up, and I said yes sir I do, but I have to use this truck for my work. He stomped his foot and asked me what I did for a living and I said I am in the Oil and Gas Industry, I honestly thought he was going to piss himself....

He went on about a 5 minute rant about me burning up the Ozone layer and causing global warming and that I should buy a smaller more economical vehicle.

I said well sir, it would be very hard for me to pull my 38ft RV and my 21ft boat with a small car likes yours.

His eyes got as big as dinner plates and started towards me, and I said sir I am not sure what your problem is, but I wouldnt come any closer and he said, I just want to see where your pumped stopped and I said I will tell you, but back up.

He took about two more steps and realized I wasnt kidding about the backing up part, and he finally stopped and said, well I guess there is no hope for you, I hope that your kids still have a place to enjoy, when your dead.

My next comment was, I hope you dont have kids... he gave me the finger and drove off....


Why do people insist on giving others hell about the things they do, I dont bother other people about what they drive. If you are paying for my fuel, then I will listen, other wise leave me the he.ll alone.


Sorry for the long rant, but this guy really got under my skin, and I normally a pretty nice guy.

Funny. If you had the time I'll bet you could find about 50 instances of him doing "un green" things easily. And he would have some reason why he needed to do those things and why you were still a monster.
