I have a small rant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I left here about 7 and went to Academy, and got all the things I needed, and I left about 8:30. I got back in the truck and realized I needed diesel.. I find a gas station and pull in and jump out of the truck, put my card in and start pumping my diesel.
This guy in a little car pulls up and starts filling up, and he sticks his head around the pump, and he says why must you leave your truck running. I said well probably because it's a diesel and I dont like to turn it off and on, 4 million times a day.
He said, well you know that your burning up fuel as your sitting there, and I said, I didnt realize you were paying for my fuel. Well he got his panties in a knot over that statement. He got all red faced and said its guys like you who are hurting our economy by driving those big trucks and causing all the global warming.
The pump stopped, so I put my card back in to get my other 75.00 dollars worth of diesel and he said that's what I am talking about, you have to pump twice to fill it up, and I said yes sir I do, but I have to use this truck for my work. He stomped his foot and asked me what I did for a living and I said I am in the Oil and Gas Industry, I honestly thought he was going to piss himself....
He went on about a 5 minute rant about me burning up the Ozone layer and causing global warming and that I should buy a smaller more economical vehicle.
I said well sir, it would be very hard for me to pull my 38ft RV and my 21ft boat with a small car likes yours.
His eyes got as big as dinner plates and started towards me, and I said sir I am not sure what your problem is, but I wouldnt come any closer and he said, I just want to see where your pumped stopped and I said I will tell you, but back up.
He took about two more steps and realized I wasnt kidding about the backing up part, and he finally stopped and said, well I guess there is no hope for you, I hope that your kids still have a place to enjoy, when your dead.
My next comment was, I hope you dont have kids... he gave me the finger and drove off....
Why do people insist on giving others hell about the things they do, I dont bother other people about what they drive. If you are paying for my fuel, then I will listen, other wise leave me the he.ll alone.
Sorry for the long rant, but this guy really got under my skin, and I normally a pretty nice guy.

What a dill weed. I am pretty concerned for our enviroment, but I also completely understand the need for a diesel truck. I also understand that your truck uses less fuel at idle than to kill it and restart it. There will always be that guy, but I would just tell him that until it becomes illegal he should keep his yapper shut!

I'm a little curious. I have never owned a diesel but what would be the max amount of time you would leave your truck running if you knew you were going to be using it again. I was having lunch the other day and a guy left his running 45 mins. I thought that seemed a little excessive. There has to be a time period where shutting it off makes more sense then letting it idle.

I dont think this guy had a clue, he just wanted someone to listen to him about his theory of what's wrong with the world. His wife probably slaps him around and tells him he is stupid

In my line of work, I get in and out of my truck pretty much all day, and usually during the day, it runs pretty much all day. If I know I am going into a place for more then 10 or 15 minutes, then I will turn it off.

California's full of 'em. They're always ready to ban or tax anything that they think you shouldn't be doing. You were nicer than I would have been. I'd have told the guy to remove his backside from my breathing space or suffer the consequences. I have no patience for the little twerps.

This is probably very true, but i still dont know why people bother with the things others do, if you want to be green, then by all means help yourself. I do my fair share of being green, and would bet i do more then he and his family.

That prompted a 5 minute lecture on how the drive through burns more fossil fuels and should be banned. No problem, I didn't mind going in. We sit down and she ask me to pass her some sugar for her coffee. I ask if she wants the real sugar or Sweet&Low, then I get a 10 minute lecture on how big of a carbon foot print Sweet&Low has. Some people can (and will) grip about anything.

Has he not been schooled by St. Al Gore that it's now Global Climate Change.. since the winter of 2008 was one of the coldest on record the Warming part kinda didn't stick to well! LoL Cabonated Flurocarbons/ CFC's deplete the Ozone layer Old R-12 and 22 Freon.. not CO2.. he's a Double Dipped Moron with Bogus Info! I often question just how we can have Ozone Alerts and yet the Ozone layer has a hole when Millions of Automobiles make it every day??  Bazz

I wonder how many long-azz traffic lights (there for "traffic control" purposes only) she sits at going to and from work? Some people just can't make a connection. Personally, at 5:30 in the morning while going to work, I'll stop at a traffic light here in good ol' Terrell Texas (city of traffic lights and trains...) just long enough to make sure nothing is coming, then I run it. If I do get caught my excuse will be "I'm saving the planet, officer."

I am proud of your restraint. I drive a diesel pickup and we build furniture for rich people who like to own a Prius but are happy to have a macassar ebony table or a Honduras mahogany armoire that is unlike anything their neighbors own. Cutting down the rainforest is OK as long as no one sees them do it. I would be in jail right now if the guy got in my face that bad. I have very little patience for confrontation.
