Looks like the boat ramp at the public fishing pier in Fulton is going to be closed for while. Anyone know anything about the ramp where 188 crosses Port Bay? Water looks pretty shallow there.

can get very shallow, I'd say you gotta get up in 14-18 if you're spot'n stop'n and draft/run in 10-12 atleast, keep an eye on tides, once you blow past through the middle of the fence you're fine, oh and lots of grass keep an eye on the h2o pressure

Thanks. Sounds like the ramp at the former Glen's Marina, on 136, might be a better bet for me. I drag bottom at 15 in.

Are you talking about the ramp on the southside of the old causeway on Hwy 35? I will be heading down their (Rockport) on the 13th of July for a couple of days. Was planning on fishing Copano Bay.

Isn't there a boat ramp on the northeast side of the bridge? I think there is also a bait stand. Its right near the Sea Gun Inn.If not where would be a good place to launch into Copano Bay.

Fished Copano this morning. Started at 1st light at Rattlesnake Point, several under sized trout, all on croaker, free lined and corks, no keepers. 8:00 headed to Port Bay Slough Shore, three rat reds on tops, one on DOA glow jig, 9:30 moved to Swan Lake Shore, wind coming from the East. Two of us in the boat, throw tops, nothing, throw jigs, nothing.....1st cast with Redfish killer, hookup, 21 in. Two of us in the boat, less than 20 casts total, and six keeper reds in the box, two a hair over 27 inches. Nice.... Off to ShellBank reef, and scratched out 5 keeper trout on 5 different baits, no patten that I could discover. Home for Lunch and time with the family. Raining buckets right now.

I have read, on another forum, that the ramp at Sea Gun is no longer open to the public.

Basically, this leaves the ramps at Goose Island, Port Bay, and the ones near each end of the Hwy 136 bridge running from Egery Flats to Bayside. The ramp on the Bayside end is all silted up. I have used the ramp on the Egery side, but it's a pretty rough deal. As for the Goose Island ramp, I don't know that I care to try to make that run.

The ramp is at a Bates Motel looking place where Hwy 188, which runs from Sinton down to Rockport, crosses Port Bay. I've seen it described as a "mud pit." I talked to a guy with a 20 ft. SeaArc last summer though, who told me he had no problems there. The water was much higher then, of course, because of all the rain.

I went down there today, to check out some vacation rentals. As I was coming across Port Bay on 188, I saw signs of activity at Redfish Camp (where the boat ramp is located) and stopped to make inquiries. It turns out that this facility is being renovated. This will include 2 3 bedroom units, and 5 or 6 motel type units. (Pending renovation, the latter can be had for the modest sum of $40 a night.) There will also be a bait stand and convenience store. The manager's wife, Shannon, assured me that ordinary fishing boats could lanch at this ramp without difficulty, even at low tide. She indicated that one should turn to the right, toward the head of the bay, shortly after clearing the grassy bank to the right, comming out of the ramp channel. She suggested that more specific guidance could be provided by her husband. The telephone number is 361-935-1234. I also checked out the private ramp at 110 Perch Lane, in the Salt Lake area. It's narrow, but looks pretty good. An honor box asks for a $7 donation. I'm not at all sure this includes parking privileges. There's a narrow space between the ramp and the adjoining property line (marked by a rope), but you would be taking the chance that someone might block your means of exit. That's about it, except for the carport. A sign makes reference to "loading and unloading," and I suspect that's the intention of public access--to create a means for homeowners in the area with a dock, and not a ramp, to get their boats to their docks. I called a realtor about one of the rentals on the same street, and inquired how I would get my boat to the dock. He said I would launch the boat, take it to the dock, and walk back to the ramp to retrieve the truck and trailer. I stopped by Sea Gun, and confirmed that that ramp is closed to all but association members and slip renters.

Uhm, I suppose that should be "mouth," not"head" of the bay.
