Why?????? is it so hard to find out what form I need to register my trailer? I've contacted both TPWD and TDOT and no one can give me a decent heads up as to what form I need to register my boat. Any ideas???

Thanks all,
PktChg

It's simple. Go to Denton County tax assessor-collector office with a bill of sale. That's it. The bill of sale can be handwritten as long as it has the trailer's identity on it. You will pay tax on it. There is no form. Texas does not title trailers. If you have no bill of sale and the previous owner is not known, register the trailer as homemade.

WOW!!! How hard was that??? It's utterly amazing at the ineptness of government beauracracy in it's natural state.

Thank you for the simplistic answer to get this taken care of.

actually Texas DOES title trailers!! if the load carrying capacity exceeds 3500 pounds, you will have to title it.

so be sure to tell them you're only carrying about 1500 pounds! Or whatever the boat weighs.

PktChg here is the form you'll need...

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/txdoteforms/G...rvletConfig.xml

It's the same one for a car, but you use it for trailers now too...They no longer have a separate form for trailers....

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me...

just walk in to your friendly tax collectors office and say you want to tag a home made trailer..they will ask ,"how much weight does it carry..you say.....pounds and they say 53.oo, or what ever it is, you pay, get a tag and head to the lake..
