I built a new lure and on the first cast ever I caught a bass. I wore that one out and never had another bite. The "first" thing may have a lot of pull.

That curse has plagued me too before except for one time. I will definately cast a short cast first thing. (If I can remember with all the excitement!)

yeah totally agreed on the no fish on the first cast... I have one hat that I love that every time I wear fishing I get SKUNKED... I havn't worn that hat in on a trip in about ten trips... and eight out of ten of those trips were double digit afternoons... Nothing other than that

I can't have a net on the deck of the boat. If I do I won't catch fish. As soon as I put in in the locker, I will start getting bit.

Any fishing activity where, before you start, you get the urge to say to your buddy ... "Watch this ..."

Never fill up the livewell until I get the first keeper in the boat. Everytime that I have turned it on at take off I get skunked.

Heh, when I go on a long-term carp session... ( Basically, camping and fishing for carp/buffalo for 2+ days, 48 hours or more )
...No casting a line out until I've had the first beer of the trip.

Never make the trip to the lake if you get a backlash in the toilet paper roll in the morning.

Ok, this sounds silly I know.
My partner and I have been jinxed, snake-bit, or whatever you wanna call it during the Wednesday Night Workingman's Tourny on Grapevine since the 1st week. That night everything was going great until dark, then I hooked into a nice "over" and tried to swing him into the boat - stupid I know. I hit the console with the fish, and he fell off back into the drink. From that moment on nothing has gone right. We went to weigh in that night, and the sack of 4 nice "unders" fell over on the back of the boat, spilling all back into the water.
Since that night we have yet to limit out, or even catch a single fish after dark. We have been consistently on good fish all week, but Wednesday night always seemed to turn back into a nightmare. This has gone on for 6 weeks now. Well no more.
Last Wednesday, in some sort of weird sacrifice to the lake, I opened a new bottle of cold water and blessed it to the lake as I poured the whole bottle out into the water. I did this right at 7:00pm, just before our first cast. Must have worked to break the curse, because we had 3 nice fish in 45 minutes, then proceeded to catch 2 "overs" to complete our sack and take 1st place. We even caught several fish after dark.
Sounds weird, but hey superstition is superstition.

I too burn the first cast of the day by just throwing it about 15 feet and then rushing it back before some fish comes along and puts the whammy on me by getting hooked on the first cast. I know it sounds stupid, but I have lost track of how many times I caught a keeper that first cast and then it is a big zero keeper wise from there on out.
