ok,wife had the choice of where to go for our 5th anniv.she picked new orleans.at first i was not to happy, but it turned out fantastic.first we get down there and there is a 3 day rap concert that started, and brought an extra 250,000 people down to the easy.that was the only bad thing.police and security was everywhere thank god.wife and daughter did a bus tour of the 9th ward.they said it was pretty sad.seeing the houses with the death toll painted on front,it really set in on what they were seeing.the vendors and street entertainment was awesome.my favorite were the robot men.should have brought my rod when we entered the aquarium.that place was cool.the food, man let me tell you.bring antacid-i always say that is how you know when it is good food, and 4 days of it,my stomache may never be the same again.but well worth it.the last photo on page 3 is what happens when you pay almost $300.00 for dinner, you amuse yourself to keep your attention off the check.lol this will probably be my last family vacation.my daughter turns 18 real soon and be to cool to hang with her parents anymore. so all i have to say is thank you, nancy and chelsea for all the wonderful memories.

You passed right close to my house on the way down there. When you were down there you were not far from City Park which has some big bass in the several ponds. The lake is good to fish for big trout. You have to fish the bridges, or platforms in the lake. You can get lost out there trying to find fish. I used to live in New Orleans, and live less than a hour away, and have only been there a handful of times since Katrina. I bet there was alot of people down there this past weekend, hope you guys had fun.

Great pics! Looks like everyone had fun. Really cool cemetery too. You and the Mrs. look too young to have an 18 year old daughter, though.

Great pics!
Lake P used to be pretty good. I recall about a year before Katrina a guy actually caught a big Tarpon out of it, but now, with the insurgence of all the freash water ( did you see all the moss and algea? It didn't used to be there ) the lake's not doing well. But out in the marsh however..... it's awesome!

Man those pictures brings back some good times. I used to live in New Orleans. I sure miss the food. Some of the best fishing is just an hour away. Lake Ponchartrain is still good fishing, more on the southside. The trout are still fat, and the reds and drums are still plentiful. My brother still lives down there and lets me know about the fishing.

Panhandle, You may be fishing in the wrong places. I have fished the North shore many times after Katrina and had some of the best fishing in the 20+ years Ive been fishing there. Have not been there this year though. If I recall there have been some big Tarpon caught since Katrina. 2 years ago, I was fishing the shoreline and saw a huge tarpon jump out of the water close to the boat. Also many "record size" trout have been caught. Lake Pontchartrain is an awesome place to fish!

Our anniv. is Sept. 3rd and we decided last year to go to New Orleans at that time. After we arrived we found out that the Southern Decadence festival was going on. Talk about a shock.

I heard that the fishing after Katrina was pretty good, but later, the long term influx of fresh water had it pretty messed up. I do know there is tons of moss there now that didn't used to be. I did see that first hand, but I do most of my fishing further down, out of Lafitte. Thanks for the info.

There may be some truth to what you heard but I have not experienced it. My parents have a home on the lake. If your interested in finding out more about the fishing there go to rodnreel.com click reports and select marsh/coastal fishing. You have to scan through to find Pontchartrain reports. I have not been there lately so I do not know how the fishing has been. You could even post the question about the water quality. I'm sure you will get lots of info that way.
