First, the obligatory newbie hello.............Hello, I'm a newbie. smile

With that out of the way, I'm looking for a place in the Houston area to take my 7 year old daughter bank fishing. Basically, I'm after anything that'll bend her newly purchased Barbie fishing rod. I'd also like to catch a few crappie and/or catfish myself since my wife is always happier when I come home from fishing with something to eat.

I've narrowed it down to 3 places: Sheldon Reservoir; San Jacinto River near Garrett Rd; Brazos Bend State Park. Any recent reports from any of these spots and/or any reason to recommend one over the others? Additional suggestions welcomed as well.

Thanks,

Michael Keith

Hi i fish a lot in houston area and i recommend meadowbrook park it is really kid friendly and your daughter can catch bass and blue gills untill her arms get tired. big cats in there as well because it is a run off for a large private lake nearby. Exit monmouth on ih-10. PM for more information if you like.

I don't know the spots you've mentioned, but wish you and your daughter the best of luck on one heck of a good time!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've been caught up with work; so I'm just now reading them.

The kids are with Grandma & Grandpa this weekend; so my wife & I are going to scope out Sheldon & the San Jacinto River today. Of course, we're getting a bit of a late start; so I won't be surprised if the bite's not on. Nonetheless, I'll report back here with results....or lack thereof. laugh

I didn't even know you were allowed to fish in Herman Park. I'll have to check it out.

Is Monmouth Rd way out on the west side of town? If so, it'd be a bit of a drive for me as I'm on the SE side down close to Pasadena & Hobby Airport. Sounds like it's worth the trip regardless.

Thanks again everyone.

Monmouth is east of beltway 8 on the east side. Last exit before the san jacinto river.
