hey guys, i am moving to longview this next month and i am looking for some places to do some bass fishing. I know about lake o the pines, caddo, bob sandlin, cypress springs, but i am trying to find some smaller lakes or ponds closer to the longview area. I have heard about martin creek, how is that? i have a 9ft pond hopper type boat so that is why i favor a smaller body of water. i would appreciate any info

Tyler State Park, but it is about 40 min to there from Longview. Your closest lake would be Lake O' The Pines. Martin Creek is okay, but it has a fish consumption warning. Lone Star lake, and Daingerfield State Park are other options.(also consumption warnings for them) The Sabine River is nearby. Teague Park is okay from fishing for bream, but it is a duck pond basically, and I wouldn't eat fish from it. There are small ponds and lakes in the area that are private. Elder Lake in Kilgore is a fishing spot, but it is very very slow and needs to be stocked.

Try the Sabine River near Hwy 31.

The Sabine River off of Hwy259, not far from Hwy 31 is not a very safe place to do bank fishing. I was there when the waters were up from the rain this spring. Some unsavory characters go out there, as you can tell from the graffiti alone. (down by the bridge) It is a good place to get hung up, and the fire ants are bad on the bank too. I usually got skunked when I went there. Directly under the bridge was really bad with ants. If you go there, bring a friend. It is not a place to be alone.
