Babes, Cotton Patch and believe it or not, I like the CFS at Cracker Barrel. I think its the gravy at CB is what makes it really good though.

If anyone knows of anyplace around Marshall/Jefferson for authentic chicken fried steak (restaurants around here think a frozen breaded patty and instant gravy is CFS) PLEASE let me know.

Can rule out IHOP and the Hamburger joint in Jefferson.

Rocket Cafe just east of Waxahachie is one of the best I have had.

Tin Star has the best Chicken fried Steak as far as commercial food is concerned.

Their gravy is just plain awesome.

If ever in the RGV, The Republic of the Rio Grande on 10th and expwy. 83 in McAllen. Excellent CFS and gravy(sausage and bacon in gravy). The rest of the menu is excellent as well.

I don't remember the name of the place, but it is in Hebbronville, down by the border. If you are anywhere within 50 miles it is worth the trip. We hit it to and from the lease. I will think of the name, and get back to this. I have not found a CFS that is close to matching it yet, and have trouble ordering CFS anywhere else.

Not bad but the last several times I had it, it was all breading with a little bit of meat in the middle.

Best damn CFS I've ever eaten. Had two parties that were leaving stop by the table to ask if it tasted as good as it looked. Oh, yeah!

It overlapped over the edges of the platter it was served on.

Also, the most expensive at $14.95 but worth every penny.

BTW, its not a menued item. You have to ask for it.

Theres this place in Palestine, I thinks its called the Ranch House, great chicken fried steak. Not some deep fried frozen patties. All you can eat buffet with fresh veggies and bread. Real mashed taters etc.
