Big T's in Kilgore, TX is my favorite. I try to get there every time I see the folks in Longview.

Goodson's Cafe, Tomball, Texas. It's perfect and "if it were any bigger it would be illegal".

The old Heitmillers just north of Waco used to be the best (but not since the family sold it). One of the son's just opened up a new restraunt in Hubbard on Hwy 31. I don't know the name of it but its right at the red light in Hubbard on the left as your heading towards Corsicana. I haven't tried it yet but I'm hoping it will be like the old Hietmiller's food.

Another good place is Dixie Cafe in Hearne.

Babes hands down! Mary's in Strawn is good too.. Anyone ever had a chicken fried steak from Ozona's? There is one here in College Station and I believe there is also one on Greenville in Dallas. Not too bad.

Shady Grove in Austin is fantastic, order it with the Hatch Green Chile sauce.

dont laugh but luby's.i have had cfs all over texas and this is the best.

Dont go to Luby's, but to be honest, I like the CFS at Furrs. It aint gonna win any cooking contest, but that along with the country fried potatoes, yum!

Has to be the chicken fried steak in Zapata at the mexican rest. El Parasios, or something like that. The small was more than I could eat. Comes with good cream gravy and cheese. Yes cheese. I had never had it before, but it is awesome. When at Falcon you have to try it.

When Mary's is good and it usually is but I've been a few times when it was seriously bad it's the best CFS to be bought, in my opinion. When she's there and running the show, I think, obviously, it's the best. I've been there a few times when it was pretty damned bad. Every single time, though, the Shiner was cold and cheap.

Throughout the nineties I at El Paraiso a lot. It was fantastic. Our own TFF veteran RT has frequented this place over the years too. It was excellent and I'm sure it still is. In my younger days I always got the "special". It was a huge CFS with cheese gravy, a beef taco, rice and beans. Excellent! The next time I'm in Zapata I will certainly stop in.
