Living in Tomball it is dangerous to have Mel's and Goodsons as close as they are to me. Both are pretty dang good.

Mary's in Strawn is the best. I just read on the internet that she keeps her recipe secret and makes her employees sign a statement to not ever reveal it. Also learned that they cook the CF on a grill and not in hot oil. Am going to try this myself.

Actually Mary's cooks their CFS on a flat-top griddle (as opposed to deep frying) and they do squirt a minimal amount of canola oil on the griddle to fry it in. I saw an actual video on channel 8 (WFAA) a couple of years a go where they actually showed her cooking her CFS. No recipe for her flour mixture, though - she said it was a closely guarded secret.

George's in Waco. Great CFS and very cute wait staff. I have a complaint about George's. I was down in Victoria last weekend and driving back to Dallas on that Sunday, so planned my departure to pull up to Geourge's about 11:30 just in time for some CFS lunch based on the comments on this thread. Hungry, belly growling, mouth watering, writhering in anticpation and George's was.....closed. I almost shed a tear. So of course my mind had little CFSs dancing around it all morning so went stright to Texas Roadhouse for a cold shiner and their country fried sirloin. Not bad....hit the spot.

Thanks albertking I know exactly where you are talking about. It has pretty much always been a hole in the wall beer joint. Those always make the best food.

John Zentners Daughters in San Angelo. I live in DFW but grew up in Angelo. I drive back there just for Zentners Daughters CFS. And usually swing by Eggemeyers general store for a ham. The best ham you'll ever eat.

I actually worked at the power plant on Lake Graham and drove back and forth until I moved to Graham in 1985.

Anybody tried the new cfs at Bill Millers? It's not great, but a very satisfying way to spend $7.50 (inclusive of tax and tea.) Not very large, about 4"x5", but it's a quality piece of tenderized beef, with no gristle or fat, and the breading doesn't fall off when you stick a fork in it. Made from scratch as you wait.

Well albertking was right about Sissy's in Breckenridge. 4 of us ate there today and the Chicken Fry was nearly as big as the plate and we ordered smalls. You could cut it with a fork, had a great batter and lots of fries and gravy. There was so much on each plate that none of the 4 of us could eat all of theirs. As albertking said if you are in Breckenridge, Texas Sissy's is the place.

I found another great CFS this past weekend right here in Houston. The Dot Coffee Shop at Gulfgate Mall is outstanding. I'll go back and get it again for sure.

The best EVER was Bishop Street Grill in Oak Cliff. Gus and Rose made everything fresh, everyday. Hand-breaded and fried those cutlets in an iron skillet, made the gravy from the drippings, just like my grandma used to. Gus carted fresh vegetables from Farmer's Market every morning and Rose made fresh yeast rolls, pies and cakes each and everyday. They retired and closed the shop several years ago but they will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. --- God bless 'em both!
