Went to Lucille's on Camp Bowie in FTW this week for the first time. Wasn't quite sure what to expect. I must say that it is by far the best CFS I have had since moving to FTW. Only "complaint" is that is needs an extra scoop of their delicious milk gravy and needs at least an extra scoop of their hot fries. This place is definitely a keeper and I will be back.
Didn't really look at anything else on the menu but I'm curious what to try next. It's going to be difficult choosing something other than their CFS, though.

Don't know if anyone has posted this but I had a CFS at a little restaraunt at s Rayburn. Don't remember the name bit it was down the road from cassel boykin boat ramp. Yellow gravy, tender meat and a huge salad. Maybe they just felt sorry for a couple of sunburnt fisherman that day. Next trip I will be back

Goodson's Cafe, Tomball, Texas. It's perfect and "if it were any bigger it would be illegal". I never tried it..but a guy I work with said if you are ever down that way that it was well worth the stop.

Add another vote for Mary's Cafe in Strawn - I finally made it down there and I can't recall ever having a better CFS. I'm usually not a fan of the pan fried CFS because it sometimes has a floury taste, but that was not the case at Mary's. The seasoning on the tenderized round steak was outstanding - they had real homemade gravy and mashed potatoes that still had a few lumps left in them. Definitely worth the drive from Ft. Worth.
One tip - If you don't like to wait, don't go during peak hrs.

Petro Turck Stop in San Antonio Texas has one outstanding Chicken Fired Steak. The sides are very good also and so is the price. Well worth trying.

Zapata Texas.....El Parisio...by far the best CFSteak made! I think it must be the crack in the gravy that makes it taste so good. I fish there 3-4 days in a row and that's the ONLY place to eat at....chicken fried and a freshly made taco...can't go wrong!

I recently found the Rock House Cafe in Jourdonton, on Hwy 16, north side of town. Excellent CFS and mexican food. Hand breaded fresh steak not pre-frozen. The real deal.

Looked awesome but my vote is for Georges in Waco.

If you go to the coffee cup than you have to try their home made donuts. Two or three of those will fill you up for a full day of fishing!!!!!!!!

The only thing I've ever had from there that was worth anything was the pie. Now, the pie is worth the trip, don't get me wrong.. but their CFS stayed with me many miles down the road. Not a fan.

I'll lay down a 10 spot and wager you'll be highly disappointed if you ever make it in there to eat. Nasty is what Goodson's is. That's about the best thing I can say about it.

I would give anything to have a chicken fry like we had in the old days. These things you buy now ain't even close.
Does anybody know any good places in Wichita Falls.

When my mother was going through her bout with Cancer, she barely had an appetite. One of our failsafe's was the chicken fried steak at the Tip Top Cafe on Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio. If my mother ate a 1/2, I was happy, but she would always wolf down at least half. The portion was the size of the plate. Great place, and while I can't say that it's the best (being that I haven't tried too many other well known places), it was my favorite. Give it a shot! Steven
