I noticed on my map of Fork that on the West end just past the 2946 bridge three is an old lake labeled "Johnson Camp Lake". I tried to find any history on this lake online but came up blank. Does anyone remember this lake prior to Fork opening? Did it go by another name?

Not positive but I believe it was a 'stock tank' built about the time they started building the lake. I'm sure there are others that know more.

That's correct. Prior to impound the river authority/tpw built many tanks around the lake, these were allowed to be flooded over as the lake rose.

Yes I use to fish the lake back in the 1970's It was full of big fish and It still holds some bigs ones today. I know of 3 fish all over 14 pounds that have came off the old dam. We had a farm just across the lake in the spring creek area before the lake filled up. I use to ride my dirt bike over there and park in the woods behind the dam and near the oil well road and fish the lake. It was never brood stocked to my knowledge but it did have some big ones back then.I have always know it as Johnson Lake.
