The Mrs. and I did some crappie fishing this morning at Granger on brush piles. Now I use spiderwire cause I love the no strech and sensitivity of it. Along with that, most of the time I do not lose jigs I bend the hook. Today however I lost 8 jigs due to the jig breaking. This happened on 2 different kinds of jigs. Both however were the cheap ones from Walmart. The ones that did this were fresh jigs and were only hung up once. Is that par for the course? Are the jigs I'm using, having too stiff of hook?

Those jigs have cheap hooks but for less than a 2$ for 12, I'll take the hooks breaking.

As long as they don't break when you have a fish on it's no big deal. I sometimes tie those WalMart specials above a slab for white bass - those dang hybrids will break those things too!!

I hang on to the broken ones and keep them in my special "guest" tackle box. When someone is in town and needs to borrow some gear to go fishing, that's what they get. It sometimes takes them a while to figure it out. crazy

I bought some off of this link on the forum and have been quite happy with them. The hook sets a little deeper i the mouth and comes out pretty easily. If you hook into some timber they bend out easily enough and you can bend then bend them back without problems. The best thing about them is that they are a great deal. Good and dirt cheap, can't get much better then that I tell ya.

never had a problem with walmart jigs . but i usually fish slow enough not to get hung up in the thick brush . try opening up the barb too that will help this problem .w/r
