Decided to hit up LL this morning and started off fairly well around twin trees. Lots of sandbass and small hybrids. As usual-after catching a couple boats would circle around-- I would move a few 100 yards and find fish again and... more boats. Just kinda get used to it on Lewisville. Well traffic started getting a little to much so I decided to hit up the gravel pits. Got to a spot there when a guy on a jet ski waved me down. He was "broke down" and didnt know why and asked for a tow--I asked where and he said over by the bridge, he would know it when he saw it(his bosses house and jet ski) Well I have a 70 yammy on a 17ft center console(not really made for towing) so I called Lewisville PD to connect to Lake Patrol. They asked me if he was drowning or if his craft was sinking--I said no and they said that they couldn't help. I told them he was stuck in the middle of the lake(gave them GPS cords) and that he would be in trouble out there(no water to drink, no way to get to shore, chance of getting hit) they said too bad and wished me a happy 4th......great. So I go towing this guy at a blazing 6mph. After about 20 minutes he said" I dont know what is wrong with it--its not reading any gas and I put $10 in about an hour ago" Ok I held back throwing him overboard. His boss' house was near the I35 bridge---only about 2 miles south of it.... Well got done there and fished a bit more up by Twin Poles and decided to call it a day. Headed back to the ramp and about 1/2 way there get waved down by a bass boat----you've gotta be kidding me!! Really nice guy and his wife broke down near the marina by SP and no one would stop and help them(there is only a boat past there about every 10 seconds) Luckily I hadn't put my rope away(trying to be positive here) and towed them to...yup near the I35 bridge(Hickory Creek park I think). Not at far as before but it was slow!!! Called it a day after that as I was about out of gas and didnt want to have to get towed. smile

I have towed in at least 4 boats on various lakes over the last couple of years and someday it will be my turn to get towed in and I hope someone will help me out..
Now I would love it for the jet ski that cut me off less than 20ft in front of my boat last night coming through the part cove cut on LL would run out of gas in front of me. I might make them beg...

Miguel and I towed a guy and his son in on Lewisville last night too.

I saw a tow service boat last night -- maybe we should get that number in our cell phones for people that need a tow.

Miguel and Fuzzy,
I want to thank you again for your gracious tow last night. I was going to test my battery and see how far I could get trolling but I am not so sure I could of made it all the way without your help.
Again, thank you for you help!
Sincerly,
Jim & Hunter

Jimmy, Glad we could help you. I hope some day when I need help that someone would be kind enough to help out specially when I have my kids with me. I hope Hunter wasn't scared and I hope your repairs aren't to bad.

You the man...Jason.. I would be feeling guilty if someone was stranded in the middle of the lake waving at me.... I was stranded last month for 10 minute out of gas about 500 yard from the boat ramp ...Good Deed will come..

bunch of sissys. ive paddled many feet with life jackets and cooler lids.

i was in a friends boat and we had to be towed in on fairfield. it was the owner of red hat rentals. turned out my friend rents lots of equipment from their athens location. he was more than happy to tow us. His motor overheated while doing it but i think he was OK.

it sux being on either end of that rope.

As others have said, each of us may well face a time when we could use some help and you did the right thing (opinion) by helping those folks out. I had an opportunity just last year when a bunch of kids needed a tow and I assisted without question. I'll help each and every time I can ... because one day ... it will be me that needs the help.

I'd always offer to pay for the towers time and gas and would expect them to decline at which point, when they weren't looking, I would toss a 1/2oz weight with a $20 attached into their boat (ideally).

Yeah I guess the only part that chapped me(other than Lake Patrol not wanting to help) was that no one out of Tower Bay would stop to help the couple in the bass boat. I mean I didnt mind at all but there were big ski boats that could have pulled them in with much less work. Oh well.. On a good note I fried up LL and CC sandbass for 35 people tonight and I may smell like Long John Silvers kitchen but everyone had a good time.

Karma. Remember, what comes around goes around.

I have been pulled in, jumped due to a dead battery. I always have a couple of minutes for someone cause you never know...

Jason, you were the better man in those situations. Doing what is right is the way to go. Doesn't matter if the favor gets returned to you or not. When you do something nice to jerks, it usually has an impact. Who knows maybe the jet skier won't run so close to fishermen now because he realizes they are actually very nice people.

As for boats, got to help another boater in trouble. I've given lots of jumps and tows over the years. Now what I might do with a ski boat is offer to tow them to closest ramp instead of their ramp if it is all the way across the lake. Still help em out but not bend over backwards to make things easy for them.

I towed one in yesterday on Joe Pool. Family had their new boat out for only the third time and this was the second time it had broken down. Sounded as if he had water in the fuel. When I mentioned that, the guy told me that was the reason it broke down the first time. Dealer showed him water in the fuel bowl. He had no clue about a water/fuel separator. I guess the dealer was expecting quite a bit of repeat service from the guy.

This was my "payback" from having been towed in by a jet ski about a month ago.

The fellow was kind enough to offer gas money but told him to pay it back by helping the next boater.

If you want to avoid the tows for dead batteries, go to walmart and get you a set of jumper cables. They sell a nice set with a carrying case for under 20bucks. Nothing fancy but doesn't take up much space and is handy for jumping off a dead battery.

What about the Sea Tow service? I saw two of their boats on Lewisville today. I heard they are outrageously expensive, but I don't know the actual charges.
