Just upgraded to this unit from the original X-75 that came with my boat. Bought the hotspots chip with the idea I would learn the unit and then upgrade to the Navionics.

I'm stumped right out of the box! This is probably a stupid question, and one my 12 year old grandson could solve right away, But here goes: I opened (actually pulled all the way out) the drawer that holds the SD cards. Manual says to push it in label up until it clicks in. It doesn't seem to fit that way, and certainly doesn't "click in"--rather it lays loose in there. Seems to fit better upside down where the contacts are on top. Looking into the unit with the drawer out, it looks like the contacts are back in there, so it makes sense to me that the contact end of the chip should be facing into the unit. BUT it still doesn't "click in"--just lays loose.

Maybe I'm being overly careful but I don't want to force anything that might damage the unit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wayne

I run a LCX15MT with the 2 chip tray. The chips don't "click in" place but do sit loosely in the tray, contacts on top.

If you want, you can have my 15 and I'll take the 27 and figure it out for you. You can have it back in a couple of years smile

Oh yeah, don't read the manual. I found mine to be horribly incorrect and substantially deficient of useable information.

You lay the chip in upside down and slide the tray in. It doesnt plug in by itself.

Thanks, guys for the info. That looked like the way to put them in, but since it was contrary to the manual, I was concerned. I will place the chips (one hotspot map chip and one 1 gig memory chip ) in the tray- contacts up-and push the tray drawer back in and secure it.

Thanks again----

Wayne

ps ran it without the chip on Joe Pool yesterday, and used only the depth finder functions--boy, what a difference! I know I'm going to love it.

I keep the manual in the boat just for "emergency purposes" only.

Just an fyi....I think you could hold a life time of info on a 1 gig SD card.

I thought the 1 gig was a bit more memory than I needed, but it was the smallest WalMart had and was only 12 bucks, so I got it.

Don't give up on it! Once you figure out the basics the rest comes pretty easy. It takes some studying and on the water training. Just get out there and test it out. You can always reset your unit to the factory default settings, so don't be afraid messing it up. smile
