I was fishing a small pond the other day, and this big goose kept hissing and moving it's head up and down at me. At first it was about 50ft away, and then it slowly walked up right next to me, doing the same thing.

I thought it wanted some food so I threw it a cracker and it ignored it and started to get even closer! Normally I'm not too concerned with ducks and geese but this one started to freak me out a bit! I thought it was going to jump up and start pecking at me.

I moved down the bank a bit, it followed me and did the same thing! I then moved about 300ft away and the !@#% thing started to stalk me like frankingoose. I finally went on a small bridge and it stayed in the water.

Was it in attack mode or was it looking for affection, food? I'm thinking maybe it was protecting eggs somewhere neat the bank? And do they attack? If so..how? bolt

I have seen geese attack people before, especially if they have a good, usually good swift kick if they start attacking you will do the trick, they will get the message and leave you alone..

If they really get mad, they will start biting you, and it's not a pleasant experience.

Oh yeah, geese can be mean and routinely are. They attack by running up and biting/nipping and it hurts when they get a good one in. When they start hissing and fluttering their wings, it's time to get out of there. I have seen geese attack dogs too. You were on her turf. Check out this video link.

Ganders are great fun! I always challenge them when I have an opportunity. They like for you to turn your back and then they attack. If you run at them they will retreat.

Supposedly the ancient Romans used geese as guard dogs. The one in the video had a MAJOR attitude! My boxer would have taken his head however.

On Bill Dance's Blooper video, a Swan gets after him. LMAO when I saw it. Swans are worse than Geese.

Dmunsie, depending on where you were fishing, it could have been Zach's (LoneStarCarper) Goosey Goose Swim. If you do a search in the carp section about it, I'm sure you'll see the pics. That stupid thing loves him. It's kind of weird...

They're good guard dogs all right, too good. They honk at everything, all the time. I couldn't even sneak out of the house and smoke or drink a cold beer without 'em raising cain. And they carp everywhere. No use for 'em.

Never had a problem with a goose, but my dad had a pretty mean rooster when I was growing up. That thing would jump me every time I fed the chickens.
I got tired of it and took a piece of shovel handle with me one day. He came at me and I whacked him. He keeled over like a wet dish rag. I just knew my dad was going to kill me, and as I sat there making up a story, he slowly came back to life. In about 5 minutes, he was fine.
He never came near me again...

I think geese and ducks should be removed from public ponds. They [censored] everywhere and geese are sometimes aggressive scaring kids and even grownups. The public pond is not "their" territory, whatever it thinks.

when I was a young, wild teenager; I hit a whole flock of neighborhood geese with my car on the way home from a party.

It was a huge deal in the neighborhood! They had signs out looking for the goose murderer and everyrthing. I was scared for about a month.

These days, I keep my foot on the break when Im driving in goose country.

I laught about it now but about 5 years ago we were tubin down the Gualupe River about this time of year. There 3 or 4 swans near the edge of the water. Well my tube got too close to the edge and one of the swans came out me. I was trying to paddle backwards to get away from him. It missed my feet and shins by inches. I had to grab it by the neck and fling it about 10 feet to get away from it. There were police or game wardens about 100 feet down stream. I thought they were going to give me hard time how I treated the swan but they were cool. Well every time we floated that stretch for the next two days those swans would see me coming and start their attack mode. I had to float on the other side of the river and paddle to get away from them. Like I mentioned I laugh about it now but those 30 seconds I thougth I was going to be swan meat!
