I have a 1989 Johnson 110hp, VRO still hooked up. I do not know the history of the motor. Is there a way to tell if the VRO is operating correctly?

I have checked the warning horn, at least for the temperature warning, it’s operational. I tried putting tape on the tank to mark level, but that doesn't seem to help much. I’ve probably run about 20-25 gallons though her with premixed gas, just in case the VRO wasn't working. I’m not sure if this was enough gas to change the oil level in the tank or not. I haven’t heard any warning horns during operation.

Ive read plenty on the VRO and its pros and cons. Most discussions I have read end in half the people saying to take it out, the other half saying to keep it in. I’m really on the fence with this thing. I would like to keep it in there if it’s working.

What are my other options for testing this VRO unit?

Thanks for any info

Hope this helps.
Check this page out. FYI-I havent tried it. Let us know what you find out.
On my Boat I chose not to replace.
The previous owner of my boat disconnected it. After I priced a new one Electric Fuel/Vro2 pump approx $375 I decided to go with the manual "Dog House Style" Pump $45. I was used to mixing the oil/gas already.
Good Luck

If the VRO is NOT working, should the alarm sound? Is the trigger for the alarm sensing if the VRO is working or is it somehow looking at the mixture of fuel to oil?

I have been through this extensively , here is a link that will tell you everything you need to know and should convince you to keep your VRO in service. After reading this, let me know if you have any further questions and I will do the best I can to help.
