does anyone know where i could get a part for a motor like this, i took it to a mechanic and he told me he couldn't find the part (when i was backing my boat, the bottom of the motor below the propeller hit the concrete curb and broke off so the motor will not hold oil)im not sure what that part would be called maybe the gearcase?? it doesnt even have to be a new part a used one would be fine. all i need is the shell the inside was not damaged

Hey Ag. Can you post a picture on here? That would help out a lot. The bottom fin on the gearcase is called the 'skeg'. They are made from aluminum and can be repaired. Depending on how much damage you did, it might be fixable, but you will need to take it to a GOOD aluminum welder. Any old welding shop will not do for this. If you actually removed part of the gearcase, I doubt it can be fixed. You may have to find a used lower unit.

Thanks for your reply. No i can't post a picture because i have not picked up the motor from the mechanic yet (it's out of town)but it is the "skeg" and it is made of aluminum. It broke off jaggedly and i don't have the bottom piece. All of the things inside of the "skeg" are intact and it was broken off only where it was hollow inside except for the lower unit oil i guess. So there is no damage to the actual motor only the "skeg". Do you know of a good aluminum welder? thanks again

You might try this web site, they deal with lots of small older outboards. You can contact them and maybe they can help you get the part you need.
