Wind, rain and then more wind. That pretty much sums up this past weekend. Weather report had Saturday at 40% chance based on my experience at POC that means a lot of rain. So we started close in assuming we would get ran off due to thunder storms. As it worked out, we got soaked three times but no thunder so we ended up fishing the full day. We started early drifting and anchoring over deeper shell with almost no success. We did find one group of trout, but so did the porpoises. My fishing partner was throwing croaker and I was using tequila gold bull minnows. Lots of gaftop on the croaker. Lots of dink trout and gaftop on the bull minnow.

Later the wind would blew like crazy creating a color line between the deeper and shallow areas of the bay. By drifting that we were able to pull a total of three keeper trout. Only one of which had any size to it and it was caught by my fishing partner on my curado while I was the cell phone with work.

Sunday called for a new game plan. We left POC early and went to the Matagorda shoreline hoping to get one of the choice wading spots. After all it was Sunday. No doing, everyone else had the same idea. We did find a spot that looked like it should have redfish, bailed out and gave it a shot. There was bait shallow but nothing eating. I finally picked up a keeper redfish and a single keeper trout in about chest deep water. We tried a couple other spots for zilch. Based on the other reports I’ve read we should have just stayed put and kept casting.

Were headed back thursday for our annual 4th of July fiasco.
