Can any one suggest a good quality rod that would be suitable for all types of fishing. (worm, spinner, crank) I was looking at BPS and the guy was telling me this one is good for worming and this one is great for cranks..and so on.. I didnt realize there were so many different types. I mostly just bass fish and need something that will toss anything I want to put on the end of it. Oh and I am using a Curado 100 DSV thanks for any input r.

There is no magic rod for all applications. A rod for cranks won't do for spinnerbaits. A spinnerbait isn't enough for jigs, etc. Find out a few baits that will work for you and your setup. Use them then move on to others.

Ok I am not new to fishing but I am new to the higher end fishing rods so can you please explain what you mean by a rod for cranks wont do for spinner baits? I am guessing it has to do with the stiff ness of the rod but would really like to know what I am doing wrong then.
thanks Robert

ANY rod can work any application. Just some are better set ups for the applications.
A good 7' med heavy extra fast tip will do anything you want it to.

Well Said Fish Killer, those were my words exactly. I fished all of those techniques for most of my life from one single rod. You guys are brainwashed by corporate America! I agree that lure specific set ups are nice, but not necessary!

While you can catch fish on any rod with any technique, I wouldn't use the same rod for every technique if you don't have to. A good crankbait rod will not be a good Carolina or pitching stick and vice versa.
Here's my preference Medium Heavy Fast Action - great all around rod that you can use to fish just about anything in a pinch. I fish jigs, t rigs and sometimes weightless baits on my MH. If I'm fishing heavy cover with a spinnerbait, I'll also use this rod, but only with mono or a copolymer. I also sometimes use it with big deep cranks.
Medium Slow Action - I like a very parabolic action on my mediums. I fish this rod with topwaters, cranks, spinnerbaits and weightless plastic. The medium action is important to make sure you don't rip trebles while you're fighting a fish.
Medium Light - I use this to throw all my finesse baits, shakey head, drop shot and all my other lightweight stuff like small crankbaits and stick baits. Basically this is my light line light bait set up.
Heavy - My least favorite rod and hence the one I use less than all the others. I use it for Carolina rigs, pitching very heavy cover and throwing heavy jigs and t rigs. I'll also use it on the rare occasion I throw a big swimbait.
I have 3 medium heavies, 4 mediums, 2 medium lights and 1 heavy. If I were to recommend just one rod, it would be a medium fast action. It will be soft enough to throw baits with trebles and the fast action would give you enough backbone to fish plastics and jigs.

Most of my fishing is with either cranks or spinners. I have two types of rods that are my main go to's. They are Hendrix 66m mh for cranks and 783 mh for spinners. I think the 783 could be used for both but is a tad stiff for cranks. Both are fast actions.

Falcon Weightless Worm Special
or
Kistler HE69LTA
Depending on your budget either of these rods will do a good job at most applications.

Waterloo Mag 3.5 or 4. I would get a 7 footer. Either should get you in the ballpark, and can be used for specifics as you budget allows for more combinations.

Robert, I rated this thread high for your excellent info on choosing a rod. That is very helpful to me as well, cause I am needing to get a couple of new ones for baitcasters a friend just gave me. THANKS for that well detailed info.

Kistler rods... You can get a graphite plus for $139.99 in a 7ft MH and that is just an all around rod.
