Sam Rayburn is at 162.57 ft. The water temperature has been around 84 degrees.
The water is clear to around 2 ft.
This week we have had some rain and wind that’s made a few places off color around the creeks and upriver. The fishing has been tough with morning and late afternoon being the best. Topwater bite over the hydria beds and peppergrass with the Stanley Ribbit being the best bait. Working these patches can be fun when you locate the fish. Some of these fish will just take it down while other’s will blowup on it. We had several do it right at the boat and that can make you jump.WOW. Some of these fish were just following the bait and turning back when they got close to the boat. You may want to pause it from time to time to get them to hit it. This bite doesn’t last long so be early and stay late. After the morning bite dies down its back to the edges of the grass and pads. Slow down and work the edges, it’s been tough so just stay at it. The deeper bite has been off. Some day’s you can pickup a few good fish and others you are just trying to get them to bite. After fishing a spot for 45 minutes with no bite you think they are not there. Then you lower an underwater camera and see all the fish you can’t believe it. I would stay around the green stuff and work it slow.
The crappie having doing good this last week over the brush piles and around the bridge. We had a cooler full of them along with a few nice Catfish to add to the skillet. We will be adding another boat in the next week to handle larger groups and I look forward to hearing from you. Remember get the kids out fishing and have some fun.
