Apparently not all of them...
"Despite beliefs to the contrary, no one has ever proven that changing moon phases have any correlation to bream feeding and spawning," he says. "These claims are nothing more than fancy, unsubstantiated by scientific investigation."
Fortunately, that fellow hasn't told the BG around here.

All I know is that my Father-in-law introduced me to shellcracker (redear) fishing in Appalachacola on the Singing River decades ago. He had been going there on the full moon in April for years prior to introducing me that type of fishing. It had to be done on the April full moon according to him as the shellcrackers would spawn at that time, come hell or high water. The trips were always planned a year in advance. And I have to say we never had a trip there (I was along about 5 years running) that we didn't connect with some great bobber fishing. Once we had a bed located, it was sit and catch!

I occaisionally catch some but not consistantly. When I lived in Indiana we fished the Tippecanoe River. One place we climbed out on this great big rock over the water and dropped worms right up close to the rock. Red Ears (we called them rock bass or goggleeyes) would fill your stringer.

I watched a guy FILL a 5 gallon bucket with bream yesterday. There was not but about 20 seconds between fish. He was using meal worms he bought at Petco and would catch 3 and 4 hand-sized bream before rebaiting.

I've heard that half of all world record fish were caught within three days of the full moon or the new moon...

How long ago was it you lived and fished the Tippy? My two uncles have lived out there for close to 25 years, and my dad's family all lives in Lafayette. We would go up every summer for 2 weeks or so and dad and I would go out with my uncle on the Tippy and just catch tons of fish on soft craws...all kinds of fish. They live on, and we fished around, Horeshoe Bend.

I was a counselor there one summer. That's an experience you never forget. My Uncle Bill Deter was our fishing guru. Took us to places he knew on the Tippecanoe. I really don't remember all that much. I remember going to Indiana Beach Amusement park. And the camp would take overnight canoe trips down to where the Purdue dock was. Man, that is a long time ago.

Yup, Camp Tecumseh is still there. We used to float down from Horseshoe to the camp, fishing, then get out at the bridge below that, can't remember the name, and dad would come pick us up.
I also lived in Indianapolis for 4 years in the late 90's, early 2000's. Moved up there from East Texas, and moved back after about 4 years.
Speaking of Indiana Beach, were the carp there then? Man I dreamed about tossing a hook off in there with a piece of popcorn on it and just trying to hold on. Those things were so thick you could walk across their backs...and big!
You uncle's name sounds familiar. My dad and my uncles, and soon to be uncles would all fish the Tippy and Wabash when they were younger. I'll have to shoot my uncle an email and ask if he knows or knew anyone by that name. I also have an aunt and uncle who have a place on Freeman.

All of my aunts and uncles in the area are long passed away. There are cousins in Indy I have not seen since 1964. I moved back to Indy in 1971 and left again in 1973. I think every acre of water in Indiana has carp. I remember a gravel pit my Grandma favored for sucker fishing. Don't think there is anything like that in Texas. Had some good times growing up there, but found out you can never go back. Everything changes and all you have is your memories.
