Is there enough interest to restart a tournament trail. The lack of participation in a fairly local CAGI concerns me a bit.
Secondly, would participants in a LSCB tourney trail object to me organizing and fishing the same event? I'm willing to organize and promote the events but I also want to compete. Would that be consitered conflict of interest?
I really miss the whole group getting together in friendly competition.
What say you?

I think that would be a great idea! I would participate.
I think most of us are hesistant to do tourneys in the heat but 9 months out of the year I think there would be no problem with turn out.
I have to admit that I would love to see a good size tourney on White Rock. With the foot traffic I think we could generate a lot of interest.

I agree, if we are going to do this, we should avoid the summer months...
As far as you fishing the tournaments you put together... I don't see why not. Putting together a tournament is a lot of work. You would be more than entitled to fish in it.

I would also like to add that Texas is different from most of the US in the fact that we also have big buffalo. There should be a big buffalo award for venues that have buffalo. Thats my .02

I am def game for some tourneys, so long as they don't conflict with me being on call. I am not scared of the heat either so summer time works for me.I think a lot of our old school guys just aren't as excited about carp fishing as they once were.

I think a lot of our old school guys just aren't as excited about carp fishing as they once were. I think Texas has spoiled us. When alot of us were first turned on to Carp, it was amazing to catch 15-20-25-30-40lb fish! But fast forward a few years, everyone is catching 15-20lb+ fish regulary, pretty much from any venue. Except for the rare 40lb+ (50lb soon I would think!) it's pretty much the same old, same old. Someone caught "another" 25-35lb Carp. We need someone to catch a few 50's to up the ante again. Until then, Bring on the Buffalo.

I can agree with no summer day tourneys but night tourneys this time of hear are awsome. Mid 70 degree temps and light breezes makes for comfortable fishing.
If the CAGI hadn't required stop at midnight, I'd have scheduled it to start at 9:00 pm. The catching the last half of the tourney would have worked everyone's arse off. LOL
Tracy caught a 14 lber from Whitney after the tourney was over.

JMHO but tournament fishing isn't specemin hunting. They're two different games. In a tourney, any fish that counts for weight is a good fish and a respectable catch. In specmin hunting, it's only the PB or near PB fish that are the goal. It's all a matter of perspective while fishing. I like both games.

The funny thing is that the same is not true for me when it comes to buffalo. Although I am sick of 20 lb carp I don't ever seem to get sick of 30 lb buffalo. I get excited everytime I see it's a buff on the end of my line. Thats just me. The exception is catching 20 lb carp with a group of friends. That makes for plenty of entertainment.

Although I am sick of 20 lb carp Blasphemy Yeah! I guess a 20-pound carp will seem boring after I catch a 70-pound buffalo, but till then they're still kinda fun.

When it comes to tourny fishing it doesnt matter what size they are. You would want any size that will weigh. If you get bored with catching 20's on euro try other methods. Try freelining dough and corn, balancing, or what ever. I could catch them with a can and some line lmao. Bring the tourny trail back. Im ready!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's hold some more local tournements to DFW so people can't use the gas is too expensive excuse(even though it is). Here are my suggestions for locations of tournements
1) White Rock Lake in early October 2) Grapevine @ night this August 3) Trinity River @ Riverside Park in Fort Worth(Tons of bank space) 4) Texoma in November

I'm with Jason, somewhat. If I'm fishing my light gear, I'll catch small carp all day. If I'm fishing a big water with my Euro gear, though, I want big fish. I want fish over 25 lbs. Nothing was getting so annoying as catching all those teener carp at Emma in Jan, and I had to keep getting up in the middle of the flippin cold night to catch the smaller fish.
Depending on when and where, I'd probably fish a few of them.

Its like Scott T said. total weight fishing is a very different thing. So long as it is with my friends I could have fun catching bluegill. thats a whole different thing.
I do absolutely hate, however, getting up in the cold night to get a teener or low 20 carp off the hook.
dmunsie said it best, we need someone to step up and catch a 50 to get us excited about carp "trophy hunting" 23again. Thats just the honest truth.
Sorry for the typos but I have a kitten jumping on my keyboard.

Sorry, but I've developped a liking to going after trophy fish. Doesn't mean I don't like to haul or anything. That's fun, too. After being out in the cold and rain for 2 weeks in Jan, I was tired of catching 10-20 lb fish. At that point, I didn't care if I caught another fish and reeled in to get some sleep. I know that I'm not the only one that has ever done that.
There are venues that I'd be thrilled to catch a 20 out of, like GV. But if I'm fishing a place like Emma, LBL, or Fork, I want a bigger fish.

What do you mean, "getting up in the cold night?" You don't get up unless we beat on the windows of your van or scream at you in your tent cot, Mr. I Sleep Through Anything.

Guys IMHO the success of a tourney depends on the amount of fish caught. Chris finds other fish smaller than his pb boring yet he was lhao while catching 2 at a time 6 lb. fish on Lake Whitney.
Granbury hunter park is a good location and not too far.
Ray Roberts lake at the southern State Park, another spot for fair numbers of fish but no great size (so I'm told).
Does White Rock Lake produce numbers?
How about Lady Bird Lake for a trail final. Remember, this is not a Dallas tourney trail, It's a LSCB Trail, that includes guys that live way up north like Tracy and Elzie then folks that live way down south like Ted. Guys that live out west like Donny and Kevin and folks that live out east like Jason.
Those of you with no interest catching fish under 20 lbs. Fishing alone, I agree with you, I don't want to put in the effort if it's not a special fish. Fishing with a group competitively, just catching is good enough. In each the object is different and success is measured differently.

Scott, I am willing to organize one of the Dallas area tourneys, like White Rock lake. There are numbers of fish in there , and a few hogs. The lake was impounded in 1905 and a lot of people who fish that lake keep their carp for food so not over crowded with small carp like other area lakes

Yes! White Rock produces numbers especially if your name is Stu.
Imagine all of the folks that stop to ask what you are doing when on Town Lake. Multiply that by 10 and you have White Rock.
If there is a tourney held on White Rock we should do it in style with the intent to recruit and break lake records. I am certasin media attention could be had in full force.

If there is a tourney held on White Rock we should do it in style with the intent to recruit and break lake records. I am certasin media attention could be had in full force. Yeah...what he said... I dare you to ditto the next thing I say.

aaH, the moaning and groaning of you guys and gals in LSCB amazes me!!! Your the only fishing club I know of who's members complain about catching a bunch to teeney weinee 15 lbers. What do you think your are, Somethin Special or Somethin??? Bunch O Babies, can't take the heat, gotta' fish at night, not interested in anything less than 30 lbs, too many 12 lb. fish biting for me to get any sleep . Wow, carp & buff fishin' with you guys must be a kick. I can't imagine fishing anywhere that I'm disappointed 'cause a bunch of 12-15 lbers keep taking my set-ups and I just haveta go unhook 'em!!! That in and of itself says how successful you guys are!!!!
Congratulations you Lucky Texans, & Good Fishin', LlindeX

Everybody talks about catching a 50 but how many people on here has caught a 40lb carp lol. Most of everybody on here is wet behing the ears on carp fishing lol. Yall need a few more years behind the belt before you get a 50 and be versatile depending on what situation your in. You will never here me gripe about catching a bunch of 5-15lb fish in a tourney lol. I cant wait until we get this thing going. Lake Whitney is an awesome lake to hold a tourney way better than grapevine. Have the championship on LBL or Emma.

Of course Whitney is better than Grapevine in every way. Its a beautiful lake.
I dont need "a few more years" to get excitied. I want to be excited right now. Its not about years spent as an angler its about hours spent in angling.
This thread has me thinking. Its really not so much about the weight of the carp as it is about its shape. Only about 1 out of 10 carp are beautiful to look at. Take Justins 28 lb for example. He could have told everyone that it was a 35 and most would have believed him. It was beautiful and healthy looking. Those are the ones I like to catch.
Buffalo are different. 9 out of 10 are beautiful no matter the size.
I like the idea of catching lots of fish for a tourney, dont get me wrong.

I was just giving yall a hard time. Only thing bad about grapevine is there is hardly any shade. I would like to do one on Hubbard.

We've been talking about Reviving the LSTT off and on for some time now, at least informally. We even had some good venue ideas picked out...
Two numbers lakes and two big fish lakes, or three numbers lakes and a big fish championship lake would be good.
Bored by fish under 20lbs? You guys suck...Lol.
Catch those smaller fish on 4lb test and light gear, you'll have a lot more fun hehe.
