Is this the time of year to fish for King Fish. I fish Port Aransas alot around the jetties and stuff, I have seen some caught in and around the jetties, and was just wondering is this the time of year. If so, what are the tricks to catching them??.....artifical, live bait....leaders?? Any help would be great. I only have a Blue Wave 190 Deluxe, so I am really limited to how far off shore I can get :-). I am looking to head South of Tuesday.

Thanks
Ron

Drift a ribbon fish, with a hook near the head and near the back end.

PM sent.
As mentioned ribbon fish is the #1 choice along with a good steel leader. I have caught a bunch on live piggies while snapper fishing as well.

They are at the jetties now but, not in full force. The blue/ more blue water is coming. I would say in a few weeks it could be really good fishing.

Ribbonfish work well and you can buy ribbonfish rigs down there unless you just want to make them? I like all single hooks with 3 hooks. I hate getting trebles out of their mouth but, a lot of rigs use treble stinger hooks.

I like piggy perch too but, it seems all the other fish like them more and it is hard to get it past them and to a king. Not sure ribbonfish is much better but, I think ALL fish eat piggies!

You can catch piggies around any boat slip.

Be careful, the end of the jetties is typically the roughest seas anywhere!

If it is nice go out to the ship anchorage (3-7 miles I think?) and slow troll or drift ribbonsfish or a rapala magnum lure. Don't get too close to the ships (cannot remeber the rule of exactly how far though!)
