It was a blast as usual, but my internal clock is once again out of whack. Just when you begin to get used to the 20+ hours of daylight, it is time to come home.

Nice pics!! That place is awesome. I got the privelage of meeting my Grandparents in Oregan and spending 2 months after I graduated high school with them. We drove to Alaska and fished for 2 months then drove all the way back to Texas. Awesome scenery and experience and would recommend it to everyone. Thanks for sharing.

MAN WHAT A CATCH! thumb

Not to hijack your thread but I made my first trip to AK last August....absolutely loved it! My older son and I spent 3 nights on my sister-in-laws boat in the Prince William Sound canal and saw everything from humpback whales to sea lions and otters. flehan
Most amazing place I've ever been. Countin the days until I go back! nuts

Here are a few pics.
Yes..I know...looks like her fish is going to eat mine! laugh

Older son's 30lb Halibut...caught 600' down. Took him 20 minutes to reel it in.

Yellow-eyed rockfish...mine 9lbs....son's was 20!!! smile

Looking up from the boat about 100 yards from shore...

I had the Russian River on my schedule but spent an extra day in Denali and had to scrap it. Will definitely hit it on my next visit!

Where abouts did you catch the ling and halibut?

So does everyone around you reel up when you have a fish on?

Yep, I am sure it is the same cable ferry. What did it cost back then? When I started goin i think it was 4 bucks. Now they want $9.25....ridiculous.

that picture is a little deceiving. It is zoomed in. That's actually a VERY long strech of the river....1/4 of a mile or so. Now that was an extremely crowded day...most likely on a weekend after all the local papers reported record numbers of fish counts.

If you do it right, it really is not that expensive.

Book your flights in Feb and pay for those. Reserve your rental car then as well. A minivan is good to for transporting all your gear.

Camping is cheapest(free) of course, but there are lodges and cabins you can stay in for under $150/night that are pretty darn nice. Book early.

Going with a group of 4 or more is the way to go so you split everything 4 ways.
If you or someone going is either active duty or retired military, I HIGHLY recommend ending you visit at the Seward Lodge. They have great fish houses where you can process your fish and flash freeze it. I do this every trip and my fish are still frozen solid when I get home with them a day and a half later.

Hendo,
Looks as if we were at the Russian River at the same time! I have the exact same pictures of the two grizzly cubs. There mom was with them a few days earlier. I fished there for five days and went King fishing up at the Parks Highway streams (poor run this year). Didn't go out halibut fishing but fished for pike up in the Fairbanks area. I will have to post some pictures soon. Glad to see you got a King, where did you catch him at?

Hah, i just saw your other post. I fish the kings on Sheep creek. You passed it as you went up to fairbanks. You go through wasilla, willow, then come to sheep right before montanna creek. I always do well there. The run was a little late this year, but i got mine.
