A healthy V6 Merc with controls, yes I would think so. Even if it is a first generation block design...........T

As long as compression is good and runs as strong as you say, then yes, it is worth 1000. I bet it will drink the gas though at wot.

If it has good compression AND it runs well (no lower unit problems) AND you are getting the whole rig, then yes it is probably worth the $1000.00. If you can find buyers for the parts and trailer, you should come out ahead. If the trailer is in good shape it should fetch at least several hundred dollars.
If the grand is just for the motor, I think that is too much. It is a 26 year old motor. You're not upgrading that much from a '78 as far as service and parts availability goes. I have '95 Mercs 150 on my offshore boat and they were estimated to be worth about $980.00.

As one who keeps an eye on prices in this area I'd say that's about right, as long as it is in good shape. He is basically selling you the motor and trailer and the problem of disposing of the hull.I have an early 70's merc and so far it has been relatively trouble free.

Cast Net it is a huge upgrade over the 78 150 because it is locked up lol. Well, in that case, I guess a paddle could be considered an upgrade then. I guess I should have been more specific. I wouldn't give a $1000.00 for the motor alone and then have to go and buy the controls. Getting rid of the hull isn't a problem. Haul it to the local landfill and take a good length of chain with you. Attach a chain to the transom and hold it and a $20.00 up in the air. One of the operators will happily bring their front end loader over to pull it of.

Probably not much difference in gas. What is an "Evinrude" anyway!!!!!!!! T What is an "Evinrude" anyway!!!!!!!! Comes from latin origins; root word "Evin" meaning "not so noisy as..." and rude; meaning "does not blow up as easily as Merc. "

OK! OK! You guys. I've owned and run both engines. The 78-150 Evinrude on a Starfire 150 Skeeter and the 82-150 Mariner on a Starfire 150 Skeeter. Both engines were good units in their day. Compaired to todays engines, we are talking about horse/buggy to Stelth bommer. The Rude did quite well, really did'nt care about fuel back then and pushed the boat around 57mph. The Mariner did just about the same, as far as performance and fuel consumption. The Mariner has chrome sleeves and will be somewhat of a sticker shock if you need to rebuild the engine, later down the line. What can cause you some problems on the motor is the t-n-t. It uses a single cylinder and a remote hydralic pump. The bottom two mounting bolts on the engine is hollow and is used as a coupling for the hydralics to pass thru. I'm not sure if the bolts are still available, if not then you might just be screwed if you mess one up when transfering the motor to another boat. The electronics like the stator, trigger, ign boxes, and coils are readiable available as well as lower unit parts and seals. Like I said the t-n-t is the only part that would give me so reservations as far as buying it. I have'nt tried to retro fit the t-n-t with a later model, that's self contained, it looks like it might exchange. And By the way. I just bought my ole 82-150 back about a month ago. Not running, for $500.

Mike that is more like the kind of info I was looking for. I am trying to get Spanky to do the swap so that it will be done right. I wasnt wanting to hear somebody trash one motor or the other. I personally have only run Evinrude or OMC motors so I have no experience with other types of motors.
Thanks for the info
Brian

We are just pokin' a little fun. Kinda like Ford n Chevy. But Mike is right. Just about ALL tha stock motors were pretty good. You can get a troublesome one with any kind. Tha older omc's kinda like a John Deere and tha older 2.0 150 Mercs were as CLOSE ta bullet proof as ya can get.
Tha bolts Mike's talkin 'bout can go away with a hyd. couplin' from any hyd hose and fittin' shop if tha motors on a jack plate. Any way ya go, David will take care of ya.............T

I have been playing phone tag with David but he is very buisy now. I do have a jack plate on the boat but I dont remimber what size. It has been way too long sence ive been in my boat and I am way past ready to get it fixed and back on the water. If all goes well I will be back on the water by mid July. My boat has been broke for 3 years.

Yeah, he is a busy man. 3 years by choice is bad enough, but 3 years not by your choice would really suck. Good luck with whatever ya end up with. Later...........T

I now have to renew my registration as it expired yesterday, but I got my seat installed and am good to go otherwise so maybe we can get you out on the water a little sooner. Of course you couldn't drag me to the lake with a bull dozer this weekend. Send me a pm and let me know what your work schedule is like, I kind of prefer going on a weekday when it's much quieter.
