Wish I could be there...even when I'd probably get made fun of with my Academy $13.99 rod/reel combos, and Walmart $1.86 rod holders.

nope, nobody is going to make fun of you. We all start somewhere. I used a pvc pod for 2 or 3 months before I decided to get a proper pod. Fishing with minimal gear is way fun.

On a side note DFw is about to get slammed with some serious looking storms so be careful guys @ LAke Whitney

Just wanted to say good luck to all. Be careful of the weather...it is looking rough on the radar.

Thanks a lot Scott. Nobody would of made fun of your fishing tackle. One of my favorite reels I like to use for carp and buffs is my $12 shimano F2000 from walmart. I have probably caught several tons of fish on it.

AlpooplA, Never worry about lack of tackle/gear, 3 of the 4 attending the Lake Whitney CAGI were using short rods. Elzie was fishing 6 lb test and using sand spikes. He caught fish. Steve was fishing baitcasters and dough bait, he took 3rd place and cautht 16 fish.

Traci and I were the only ones there with long rods and I didn't fish much. I'd have loaned you tackle if you wanted.

All I'm saying is never let tackle envy keep you away from a good time. I love fishing carp on crappie tackle when I can get away with it.

Alpoopla,
The gear I use is not expensive spinning gear mostly.
Check garage sales I have gotten a lot of my stuff that way.
The lightweight stuff just lets you fight the fish longer.
I have a Zebco 33 on an ultralight ugly stick that I use sometimes and that will let you fight for a while.
I use the walmart rod holders and they work great.
Corn or simple bread and cottonsead dough will put you
on the fish.

Fishinkev told me at GV lake that you guys would laugh at, and ostrecize me for sure. j/k Kev! wink

Seriously...if I could have gone, I would have, regardless of my gear...seems like everyone had fun.

The only reason Kevin said that is cuz He gets ragged on for buying and selling his gear whenever the wind blows.
