I posted a couple of weeks ago about going to Cabela's and finding my fish cat for $119. I got it home and was planning on taking it out the next morning. Well once I got it out and went to fill it up I noticed something looked wrong... It was missing a valve. I went back up to Cabela's the next morning and they exchanged it, but I wasn't able to get on the water until Wednesday.

I went to a local pond off of Greenbelt rd and Trinity Blvd in Hurst. Only got one bass and a gar stole my new crankbait. Other than that it was a good learning experience. Now that I knew what I needed it was time for the upgrades...

Nice, I like the tackle boxes on the side. I have the worst time with a tackle box, I put it behind me and it is full of water. Unfortunately, the Fishcat does not have enough storage.

Very creative. thumb

Yeah that first time I went out I had to come home and drain/dry out all of my boxes. With this they're sitting in that clear plastic "tub" zip tied to the frame. I'm hoping that will keep them out of the water.

WOW - I like the rigging!
I now have to work on something for my FC4.

Do you have a fishfinder on the rigging?

Thanks. I don't have one for it yet. Once I do get one it should be easy enough to add on. The front left rod holder and the short horizontal poles on the right side unscrew. I should be able to just screw in a replacement piece. I think I'm taking it out after work so we'll see how well it works.

I got all inspired yesterday. I had bought a new Eagle 320 and hadn't rigged it yet. Yesterday, I went and got me some 1 1/2" PVC and went to town. Real glad I did, because now I have a plan for adding a trollin motor to it. Coming soon!
What exactly did you use to attach it all to the tube? That is really all I have left to do.

for now I use some cord tied around the pipe and tied to metal clips. I clipped it to the D-rings and also put a bungie under the tube attached from one side to the other. There's no way to know but I think the brace over the back helped stabilize everything.

I took it out yesterday evening and everything worked perfectly. My tackle boxes stayed dry and no rods fell in.

On a side note, has anyone had the living daylight scared out of you by a carp? I was fishing one spot for a few minutes and then decided to move a little. Well when I went to kick my right fin I almost kicked a good size carp. Obviously he did not know I was there and I startled him. I was watching my buzzbait and didn't know he was even there until he splashed. I may have wet myself... I don't know since i was already sitting in water smile

I got hit in the leg by a beaver once, scared him so bad he came out of the water and did the tail flap. I probably had a heart attack and did p in the water after that one!

I was looking at that site on Google Maps - were you on the smaller pond or the bigger lake that is right behind the houses?
Is is public access?
I live in Hurst and am looking for more small water to fish.

I too have seen those ponds on live.com. I even drove by there one day but was unable to get to the ponds. These look like good spots, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get to them. And don't worry about me messing up your honey hole. I very rarley keep any of the fish I catch and usually fish by myself. Feel free to PM me with the details. Wish2BFishN, let me know if you want to share some spots. I live in E. FTW and I'm always looking to fish local spots.

Gamedawg,

I live in the North Hurst area (very close to Colleyville Nature Center). have only had my tube out a couple of times and would like to find more places to take them.
Got inspired this last weekend and built a rig for it - holds 3 rods and my Buddy fish finder - need to take it out and see if the rig works!
PM me if you want to meet up or just trade spots (I don't have that many yet!)

The only spots that I know of in your area are:
Grapevine Lake (of course)
Colleyville Nature Center
Cap Smiths Park in Wautaga
Bear Creek
The pond at Keller City Hall (never fished it though)

If you look at a map, there's a lot of water in Keller and South Lake. I wish I knew more.

sorry for the late reply. I've been on both ponds. the smaller one is easier to get to and more popular. The big pond is pretty nasty looking along the south bank (I tried to pick some of the trash up, but when you see it you'll understand). The cut in through the trees looks to be put there by the gas companies. They had the pipes pumping water to their drilling site south of the pond. There's not much of an area to put in at the Big Pond. You have to get creative. The time I did put in I only got about 1.5 hours and found out that it is very shallow. I don't have a depth finder but using my line (and rod) I found out it was only six feet deep where the trees are. Anyways I didn't have any luck and I don't see much potential. Looking at it from the bank, it looks nice but I don't think it's worth it.
Pond 1 (smaller) is not bad. I've only done okay there but I pulled this out last week.

(sorry for the crappy pics forgot the actual camera)

My friend has a pelican 8 footer that we took out there. He has a fish finder so I explored a little. The pond gets to about 15 feet or so. It's mainly flat with no bottom structure. The best spot I've seen is the fallen tree on the south side of the pond. It holds a lot of fish. My buddy went back out there Sunday with a few minnows and was pulling out crappie. I've been out there several times in my float and it's fun. There's usually never anyone else out there and if there is, they're on the bank.

Sorry for running on but I couldn't ever find info for these ponds and thought you guys might like some.

Here's a map I put together (turn on the satellite view)

Another good spot is Marine Creek Lake. The southwest cove is pretty calm and fun in a tube. PM me if you want to share some spots or hit some up.

A co-worker lives right by Marine Creek lake - he's always talking about the fishing there.
Where do you put in at Marine Creek? Do the boaters bother you?
I heard they had drag boat races a couple of weeks ago - wonder what sort of terror that puts in the fish!

I park at the last entrance out the access road (furthest west). There is a cable blocking the entrance but I just carry my tube and everything else down to the water. There is a boat ramp there and it's protected from the wind which was more of a problem earlier this year. I have never had a problem with boaters. Usually, skiers are not out early enough and I've never had any problems with other fishermen. Yeah, they have an annual drag boat race there. I imagine you could find some fish hiding near the bank that weekend.

Suggestion for MC Lake: Park at the end of the road (by the barricade) on the north side of TCC. You'll worry a lot less about the riff-raff that hangs out at other parts of the lake, and TCC's security guys drive by all the time, which makes me worry a lot less about my truck. The northeast arm has some good spots, to boot.
