what is the deal with zoom and academy?Zoom plastics were on sale here in Lufkin about 2 months ago and since then the Zoom shelves look like the aftermath of a tornado. The shelves have not been restocked. Is there a problem between Zoom and Academy or do we just have a 2nd class academy store in Lufkin

I wondered the same thing in the DFW area. They always used to be fully stocked, but not since the sale.

As a new employee of Academy I would say they may not be restocked. From what I know Academy buys all of its stuff at the start of the year so they get better prices...sooo once they are out they are out. However, that may not be true with some stuff ,but I think that is the general rule.

The academy here in Waco is the worst ive ever been in it was out of some even before the sale and now there is hardly any. I bought all there carolina ready rigs over 3 momths ago and they are still out! Ive started ordering everything online, its usually cheaper and less frustrating.

I asked the same question here about 2 weeks ago. Since the Lufkin Sporting Goods Manager left it has been poor selection. I did see some in a buggy they were stocking up, but it still is "empty pegs" on the Home Front.

its not the stores fault, its the disturbuion centers fault, once were out of stuff were out and we cant tell anybody to make a order, its just when the disturbution center decides to send us stuff.

the only thing we can do is see if another store has any and get them transfered to our store.

The Academy in Burleson is out of Baby Brush Hogs and has been for about two weeks now. I had to go to Wally World and buy all they had, which was only three bags

Hey Skeeter i had been in there 3 or 4 times after i bought them out and no one ever offered to get some from another store. it was just the same old tired story, we dont order anything they just ship it automatically. I think after i was out for a couple of weeks i would be calling someone! Anyway i just got 30 from Tackle Warehouse so ill be good for a month or 2. Thanks anyway.

A lot of the problem has been zoom. They just haven't been able to keep up with the sales. Unknown why we've been having so many zoom sales, but i don't hear to many people complaining about the price laugh

If you think Zooms are bad, try to find Grande Bass Rattlesnakes.

CLEARING IT UP

I run the fishing section at Academy in Lufkin.
Lets get a few things straightened out.....

1. Academy doesn't buy their stuff at the beginning of the year. What kinda statement is that? We buy stuff all year. how could you possibly keep stores stocked if you only bought it at the beginning of the year.

2. It has nothing to do with the sporting goods manager leaving.
No Fishing manager in the academy chain is responsible for the empty zoom shelves.

3. THE REASONNNNN the zoom aisle was empty ( its full now by the way).. is because zoom massively produces those baits and pours WHAT THEY WANT
WHEN THEY WANT and then it is sent to the academy distribution center in some serious bulk. then distributed to the stores.

the individual academys dont buy the items were sold out of. If somebody buys it then the computer replinshes it. If its not at the Distribution center then they company hasnt sent their order to the warehouse.

Hope this helps.. smile

p.s. any problems with zoom items in academy sports and outdoors is ZOOMS fault not academys.

Sorry if you think I stepped on your toes,I am sure you remember when Zoom was on sale 2 or 3 months ago,it was a good sale but afterwards the shelves were bare.I went back 3 times to try to buy some zoom worms and the shelves looked just like they did after the sale.I am not trying to put you on the spot and I am aware that Academy is a sponsor of this forum and I am sure we appreciate it,But even you have to admit that this Academy store could stand some improvement in re-stocking.We are near one of the premier lakes in Texas and Tackle is a big seller in this area.

well said magic carpet. i was an academy manager, team sports, for a year and a half, and you're exactly right. Zoom pours when and what Zoom wants. Just because we are out of watermelon red speed craws or whatever, they don't particularly care. How many academy stores are there now? 105? Say each one is supposed to have 12 packs of a particular plastics. That's 1260 on hand. We have a sale, and now they're all gone in a week. It takes longer than a week for zoom to get them poured, shipped to the academy distribution center, and sent to the stores. That's assuming zoom pours for demand, which it apparently doesn't. So maybe the DC keeps another 500 on hand, and they go to the stores that do the most volume. Still waiting on zoom at the end of the day.
