I came across this place on my last canoe trip. Its a small grocery store-cafe with a side room with a bunch of mounts on the wall where you might be able to sit down and drink a cold beer. Its called the Silver Dollar Grocery. The owners are Anita and Harold Speed. Real nice folks. They have an all you can eat buffet that is HOME COOKING bubba!! They have a coliseum out back where the locals put on the gloves and have sparring matches every Saturday night. Its in a wide spot in the road called Hendrix Oklahoma, maybe a quarter mile north of the Red River and the Carpenters Bluff bridge. If your ever out for a Sunday drive and want to go someplace neat you should check it out.

Harold Speed used to be a Striper Guide on Texoma as well. I don't know if he still guides, but we have been on a couple of trips with him in the past. I didn't know about the store in Hendrix.

you mean you actually drive across the Carpenters Bluff bridge? That damn thing scares me, or the last few times I've been across it it has but that was a while ago. Too rickety, too high, too narrow.

Mrs. Speed told me her son built air boats. I googled "Silver Dollar Hendrix Ok." and came up with their store, guide service, lures, and high end air boats.
Just down the road is Red River Tavern. I really wanted to check it out, but I have a tendency to linger too long at such places and any well laid plans I had would go out the window...
Here's a picture of that rickety bridge:

Yeah, I think Harold is the son to the folks who run the grocery/cafe. He is also the current world bowfishing champion. He is co-sponsoring a bowfishing tournament on PK in August.

The bridge looks fixed up since the last time I was there.
