Went out this afternoon and fished the Colleyville Nature Center for a little pond bass action. Great ponds and saw fish jumping everywhere but had no takers. I was fishing worms, swimbaits and jigs and not even a bite. Does anyone have a report from there lately? The catfish spawn must have just ended there because I saw many fingerling catfish along the banks of the North pond. fish

I was out there about 2 weeks ago... caught several lmb, largest being roughly 3.5-4 lbs. I numbered the ponds below with the number being in the approximate location the largest lmb from each pond was pulled and the lure used. Most were taken from the S/SW portions of the ponds.

1)Top water plug
2)Scum Frog
3)Scum Frog
4)Spinnerbait (willow)

Slug-Go ... I think you missed what is in my opinion the best pond of all ... and that is the small pond to the right of #1 in the picture. I have had had real good luck on that pond.

Here is an old thread (2003) on these ponds but I suspect much is still useful.

LipRipper,
These ponds are so small that one can usually reach any part from the banks. As to the core of your question, sorry ... I don't know but I have never seen any boats on those ponds of any kinds.

I agree, I have caught a nice lmb out of the pond not pictured (to the right of pond #1 in the pic) but on my most recent trip out there I did not catch one from there.

It is one of the larger ones but still completely accessible from the bank. #2 appears to be one the shallowest ponds out there. Mid/later summer the pond is usually only fishable with top water frogs, etc due to the amount of vegetation in it.

I fished Colleyville nature center friday night(yesterday) and reeled in a 5.2 lb LMB on a yellow spinner bait. I caught it in the pond I call Florida.

Went out at sunrise throwing a top water plug, had a lot of takers and missed more than I landed. I caught all of them in the first 2 ponds by the park over a 2 hour period. I spent a lot of time trying to get the larger ones I missed to hit it again but they wouldn't. I guess by the time I made it to the ponds in the back it had warmed up enough to push them deeper.

The trip resulted in a new ultra-light reel. My old quantum broke while fishing and I think it was the culprit for most of my missed bites. It was an older spinning reel with the trigger on it which allowed the bail to roll all the way back until the trigger aligned with the rod - delays setting the hook.

Where do you guys park when fishing C.N.C.? I paid a visit on Friday but was concerned about the availability of parking in such a nice neighborhood. Not so much about security, but about getting towed or tickted. This is a very nice neighborhood and I'm sure some of those folks don't want the extra traffic in the area.

With relation to the picture in the thread. If I am fishing at 1 there is a parking lot beside it. If fishing at 2,3 or 4 I park at the edge of the road closest to the trees.

I'm in the mood to fish there again ... if any TFFers are going out, feel free to send a PM if you want some company.

Went out to the Nature Center this morning for a bit. I fished the back ponds throwing a jig. Dozens of bites, several misses (fish on and they get off) and 1 broke the line so I switched to a rod with braid on. grin I am fairly new to jig fishing so I am still getting the feeling of when to set the hook, etc. Landed 3 but I guess one of the pics got deleted somehow.

Same fish as in the previous pic..
