It dependes on how far away the fish are from you spot and how much current there is, but no longer than 30 minutes. I see success with them sometimes within 2-3 minutes.

How many cubes would be needed, and how how of an area would you need to put them in to have the best success? Or better question would be basicly how are they used since I am totally new to this. Also I would be fishing from the bank.

LOL!!! I had never thought of "beer" as a measure of time. Too funny. And like Einstein said, time is relative. My first couple of beers seem to last longer but by the sixth, it seems that one minute its full ... next its empty.

I can just see my defense in DWI court ...

"Its like this your honor, I was getting any bites so I had to keep changing location and this guy on the forum told me to drink two beers after throwing my range cubes".

Case dismissed.

allhookedup,
Here is a previous posting on the subject of Range Cubes that seems to give a great set of thoughts.

Beer is a time tested method for many things. Grilling chicken for example is a 4 beer event at least.

I am really new to this but this has been working for me. As per Tiny's instructions from a while back I use two-three 12 ounce coffee cans. If the cats are there the mayhem starts in 10-15 minutes.

Then a can every 45-minutes to an hours to keep them interested. When you catch them they usually have the stuff coming out of their mouths.

I think the molasses in the cubes attracts the kitties.

I used horse and mule "sweet feed" the other day and had them running to my line in under 5 minutes. It seems to pull them in alot quicker than the cubes. Just my 2 cents worth. - Charles

p.s.- 2 of my sons and I caught 45 that day.

Glad to see that you are still catching fish and using the tactics that I showed you....have you caught anymore lake records lately?

Everytime I go out I beat the lake record lol! I just don't take the time to go get it certified. Last Saturday my second oldest son caught one that went over 5 pounds. He is a catfisherman for life now haha! You taught me how and now I have created catfish monsters. That's all they talk about now. Going out again this Fri. & Sat. Wish me luck! - Charles

Also when I cleaned the fish we caught, Their stomachs were FULL of the sweet feed. That tells me they like it and were feeding on it pretty heavy.

I didn't think that sweet feed would sink. I will have to give it a try this weekend..

Charles B. How do you use the horse and mule? do you just scatter it out or what? How much do you use? I guess it will sink.

I just take a cup and scatter it accross the area i'm going to be fishing. I usually use 2 or 3 cups. Don't use too much because you are not there to feed them, just to bring them in. After 30 or 45 minutes of fishing then scatter another cup out. And yes it will sink. Some of the oats wont sink but the cats sometimes comes to the surface and eat it. Hope this helps!

I used the horse and mule this weekend at Granger Lake. I think it worked like a champ. I fished all day and made it until about 4am and fell asleep on the boat. I spilled a little in the water beside the boat (water was about 6 inches deep) woke up by loud sound in the water, looked over the edge to see about 20 carp piled up on top of each other eating the spilled feed. I assume the pellets broke up and they were just eating the corn. I hammered the channel cats that night and not one carp. Did this feed bring the carp in? I would prefer to keep the carp away.

I don't know if it brought the carp in or not but if you caught alot of channels, then I would say it did the trick. I have always had good luck catching cats when using horse & mule feed.

Maybe the carp just dont like Danny King plug bait lol. Lets hope not. They were hitting the floating oats like Charles said they would. I will use it again this week.
