I'm about as sharp as the butter knife i tried to cut my steak with last night. but spelling is not my best attribute but i get by. And to bend a mount or break one and fix it to just get by is not unheard of these days with the price of everything. I have kicked a depth finder off the bow of my boat when i missed a big fish. the six pack added some fuel to this deal. but i did fix it to just get by. Old boat and didn't really care. but also have friends that buy things at yard sales and garage sales and then sell them on ebay. I guess my point is how does one know if things are stolen or if they are bought other places to resale or so forth. just food for thought.

WE don't know for certain if the items were stolen. We do have our suspicions however and based on the way the items were listed and the response the seller gave when someone phoned him, I would say those suspicions are not without merit.

I am impressed that they took my email serious and tried to pursue it.

Here is a reply from North Richland Hills Police Department:

Mr. Holcomb,

The North Richland Hills Police Department would like to provide assistance in this matter. We realize there is a possibility the equipment could be stolen. We encountered a problem immediately after beginning our investigation. Upon receiving your email about the suspicious fishing equipment I assigned a detective to look into this matter. We have not been able to get a response from the phone number listed on the advertisement. This may be due to the all the “chatting” about this issue by the many people emailing each other about the equipment on a public forum. The suspect may have gotten scared and shut down operations, at least temporarily.

The detective assigned to this matter is very familiar with the Texas Fishing Forum as well as many other people in Texas. Since the suspect is no longer returning calls we have to assume the suspect may have been alerted to all the talk about fishing equipment on the website. The suspect may even monitor Texas Fishing forum himself/herself.

I realize that a police department cannot please all citizens in all matters, but in spite of the negative comments about our department on the Texas Fishing Forum website, we are committed to providing a quality service and will continue to monitor this situation.

We do appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention.

Please contact us if there are any new developments.

Sergeant

Criminal Investigations Division

All they have to do is go to his house and check the stuff out. The reason there is no line or string on the reels is that is a sure recognizable by the owner. Also the price of the line he claims to have to spool them up with. Too much.

Nice reply by the NRH dept. It's nice to see a PD in that area take a positive attitude toward apprehension of criminals. I am very impressed!!

We had our equipment box trailer stolen in Arlington and never got it back, despite our finding the trailer in a drug dealer's back yard two weeks later. Turns out they were watching the house for drugs and didn't want to blow the investigation over something so little as our $20,000 worth of equipment. Still sitting in their back yard!!!! No, we won't go get it either, from the warning I got from the department out there.

I'm glad to see that the guys from NRHPD know about the forum and seem willing to help. I would love to see them set up some kind of sting operation to catch some of these thieves in the act. I bet we could get them a boat to use if they were interested.

I would just like to get lights on at the ramps for us night guys at LRR or an occassional patrol. Think what we have a stake when we park our trucks at ramp parking. We have all seen the druggies drive through.

A little more info on what these people sell can be found by searching their phone # on Craig list.

I was looking for a truck a few months ago and was talking to a guy who sounded dishonest. I asked if he was a dealer, and he said no. I searched his phone # in Craig list and 60 other vehicles came up that he had for sale.
Every car he had for sale had a picture taken in front of a house in a normal subdivision or in front of an elementary school. I called him back and asked him why he lied to me about being a dealer. He started stuttering, and asking what I was talking about. So I started listing all the other cars he had for sale. LOL

I also signed up with carfax and found several others with the odometer rolled back. (From other sellers)

I called a guy off of Clist about a Trek bike that was a great deal. Too good, really. He first said the bike was his and that he bought it while in college. He knew nothing about the bike and the more questions I asked the more nervous he got. When I asked what the frame size was he said he didn't know. I asked if it had disk brakes and he said yes, an obvious discrepancy from the picture he had posted. The phone # he posted was an Ohio number and the bike was supposedly in Farmers Branch. Needless to say I passed on this good deal.
