ANy body catch any Walleye or bass out of Lewisville lately? Going down there tuesday and dont know much about the fish in that lake. Any help would be appreciated. PM me if you got any ideas.

i've caught a few bass lately but walleye? i haven't heard of one being caught. i think they were stocked there by tpwd in the 70s but not since.

I've caught everything imaginable on Lake Lewisville, chains, beer cans, trash, giant hose clamps, and even a kite that was under water.....

alot of lakes attempted walley stocking in the 70s but the water on most texas lakes is not deep enough and doesnt stay cold enough for fish like walleye to survive.

There is Walleye in Squaw Creek, I know I caught several when I use to fish it. But I guess its closed ot public fishing now cause of the Nuke. Plant there

No Walleye in Lewisville that I know of. Been fishing it for years and never caught any. Bass yes, plenty.

okiebass, I am a fellow okie. I live in SW oklahoma at Altus. Fished Lake Altus yesterday and got two limits of keeper walleye from 16-18 inches while fishing for whites and hybrids. Not very big but legal and good eaters. No reason to head to Texas for those when we got'em,

I agree with this ... wanna catch them yankee fish and wimpy bass ... go to OK. Wanna catch some BIG bass that will stretch your line ... fish Texas !!!!!

For those used to fishing in OK, I think LL on a weekend during the summer would be a bit of a shock, so much lake traffic, massive boats, muddy shallow water, rude skiers, fishing pressure, overbuilt shorelines, etcetera. Personally I get excited fishing in OK to escape all of that.

You can catch an occasional walleye on Bridgeport especially up by the dam.

supposedly you can catch them in Lake Weatherford over in the deep area by the dam, also. heard you troll a very deep lure to get down to them.

I heard they stocked walleye in Ray Hubbard also. When I was a kid, I heard of one being caught every great once in a while. As far as walleye being trash fish, I guess you've never eaten one. The meat off a walleye will contend with that of a crappie.

WOW, Walleye are great tasting fish. I grew up in North Dakota and there are plenty up north but none down here. If you want to talk trash i will have my family send me some and we can cook them anyway you want and the walleye will be the best fish you haven ever had. We throw back all the [censored] you eat down here. lets go. cook off

saying it is trash is taking it too far - whoever said that. but the best? i'd put it up against some fresh speckled trout or flounder from the gulf anyday.

In 1972, 73, 74 there were 1,087,800 Walleye stocked in Lewisville. There was also 2,150,090 Walleye stocked in Eagle Mountain in 1975. I really don't think the texas fish and parks would have stocked the lakes with a fish they didn't think would survive. Just my 2 cents worth now is all.

but they stopped stocking for some reason. probably didn't survive.

I just sent off and e-mail to the parks and wildlife to find out the real reason as to why. Will let everyone know when I get the answer back.

Most of the north texas lakes were stocked with them in the 70's and early 80's. The original stock grew and lived well, but the conditions in most of the lakes around here aren't right for them to reproduce. Thats why they never caught on. They are a difficult fish to farm raise for high numbers of stockers, so the stopped the stocking program in the lakes where they couldn't reproduce.

They stocked just about everything back in the 70's, and most of it died. They were testing the waters to see what would survive.

They stopped stocking them because they weren't able to survive and reproduce on their own. Lewisville is too warm, muddy, and shallow for Walleye.

And like the other guy, I fillet just about every black bass I catch. They taste tons better than sandies, but back to the point, not as good as crappie or of course, walleye...

Well, can't say I ever caught a walleye but I ate plenty of them when I was a kid in Indiana. Uncle Bill flew to some place in Canada every year and brought back enough walleye to have a big family fish fry. Those Canadian walleye were mighty tasty fish.

Used to keep bass (used to keep about everything I caught to keep the freezer full). Bass taste alright but I like channel catfish first, then crappie, then sand bass, then bluegill as far as taste goes.

The problem now a days is that our waters are so polluted that none of the fish taste like they used to. And that goes for most of the beef, poultry, and ham. Everything that is raised to eat if full of steroids and water injected and grain fed. It's all so bland now a days.

That's tough to take, calling Walleye Pike trash. My dad used to go to Canada with my granddad and friends at least once a year walleye fishing and he used to tell me great stories of cooking walleye they caught that morning for lunch over a wood fire on an island in the lake they were on...

They fight like heck, have teeth, and taste better than just about any fish I have eaten... They are not trash...

Pretty sure that the Peacock bass ate all of the walleye in Lewisville in the early 80's. Then this dude found the peacock hotspot up in Cottonwood creek and cleared em out one afternoon. The rest is history

I know right where that sand bar is in Cottonwood......we used to noodle SAL's from the edges of that sandbar during spawn. Once, my buddy had a 16lber that ate his arm off.

We got a small walleye in the cast net about 5 years ago on Lewisville. Only one I've ever seen there.

Most of which have moved here from other states and don't know what they are talking about. Native Texans such as myself know that OK is great fishing.

You got that one solved 100%. I just got me E-mail back from the TFWD and it is exactly what you said about the stocking. They never did give me the exact water problem but said that due to the water quality the fish did not survive very well. So they stopped the stocking program in North Texas.

We caught one in Ray Hubbard back in the late 70s while trolling for sand bass along the I-30 riprap. None of us had any clue what it was, but one of the guys was from Canada and he ID'd it correctly. Only one I ever saw caught out of there but I'm sure they're were plenty caught before they died out.

I caught a large walleye on Texoma while night fishing (while casting a fliptail flirt) for striper some years back.

I believe you have found my walleye, sir. I stand corrected and informed.

Caught a 5 lb on Lale Palestine in the mid 1980's.
Very good eating.
