Heading to Crystal Beach tomorrow. I'm taking a small boat with me. I will probably launch at the Stingaree. If anyone has suggestions on where to go or what to use I would appreciate it.

There are several oyster reefs to the northwest in the bay, best hit on an incoming tide drifting across. To the east coming out of the cut across from stingaree there are a couple of bayous as well. You'll need water movement to do any good in those. You can also head east on the IC to the cut and fish that.

We spent a week (5/30 - 6/5) at Crystal Beach. I was extremely disappointed in the fishing. Apparently they were cleaning out the bayside channel and pumping the sand, etc. over to the gulf side to help build up the beachfront. On low tide, the beach was pure sludge mud. (this info came from a lady at the grocery store). We fished a couple different times. I saw 2 hardheads caught the entire week in the surf. The green water was 700-800 yards from the water edge. We planned pretty well for the trip but I guess I need to call the Corp of Engineers next year before planning on doing any fishing. A great trip but a real disappointment on fishing action.

I am headed to crystal beach starting on friday for week, planning to fish in the surf for sharks most afternoons/evenings. is the entire beachfront in bad shape from the dredging? I often paddle out with a kayak and drop bait on/past the third sandbar. oh yeah and how was the seaweed?

The beach front from rollover west is still pretty soft for a half mile or so, East of the pass was not affected at all. most of the beach seems ok. just around gilchrist. We were up all week last week and fish the icw and the mud flats east of rollover and caught lots of good flounders, and a few 25 inch reds. The winds were 20 to 25 all week so we didn't bother with the surf.

thanks for info! i will probally spend some time wading off the back of rollover and wading in the flats east of the north jetty as well.

They were doing the same thing last year from Roolover East. Tey are building up the beach to help the homes from being washed out. Just drive down the beach and get out of the mess.

Thoughtv about you yesterday evening for some reason. I ran out on cedar creek after that little storm blew out and just wipe up on the hybrids. we gotta get together and hit a few some evening.

can someone tell me what you mean when you say icw.....and i am going to crystal beach also this weekend from galveston and was wonderin if anyone could give me any suggestions on what to throw to catch some reds and specs....i will be 100% on foot...aint got know boat and also any wading spots would be greatly appreciated

The ICW is the short name for the Intracoastal Waterway that the Galveston Bay system is a part of. Reds and specs will be running around hitting mullet and shrimp, but I like throwing new penny Gulp! under a cork.

You can catch bull reds and sharks in the surf this time of year. Some days the surf can be good for trout. You just have to find them. If you have a net catch fresh bull(BIG)mullet for bait or use cut crab for reds. Best thing to do is find someone who looks like they live or fish there alot.
YOu can drive down to Gilcrest about 10 min to RollOver Pass. The best fish there is the last 4hrs of out going tide. Fish the surf side and you will see people wade fishing in the out going water. There use jigs or MirrOlure TTR its a sinking twichbait.

Rollover on bay od beach side, ICW is intercontinental waterway(ship channel). We thought about rollover this weekend but with the restrictions on the specs. it's not worth it. good luck

Guys, it's actually the INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY. Alot of people have been confused over the matter, and in fact, even many who should know better (magazine and newspaper writers) have commonly stated the ICW as the "Intercoastal Waterway." But an examination of English prefixes yields the desired result: "inter" meaning "between and among" vs. "intra" meaning "inside or within". The ICW is not "between" coasts, instead, it is "within" the coastal region.

And yes, I do fish the Gulp! under a popping cork, but mostly, I like to fish them attached to a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jighead with a fairly large hook. There are a few jigheads on the market made with VMC or Gamakatsu hooks that are what I usually hook the Gulp! onto.
