I have never tied off when fishing the rigs. I simply run up to the pilings, drop my bait, and then let the current drift my boat back away from the rig. It has always worked well for me, in fact, I have caught bigger fish a little distance away from the rigs versus right on top of them. Just my .02

ed's right. i myself have done the same thing on a spot we fish out of galveston. we anchore up and everyone drops to the bottom and pull up some nice snapper, but i will cast out passed the reef or whatever we are fishing and let it sink back into the reef or whatever we are fishing and will pick up a bigger snapper just about everytime., same thing on the rigs. i have also found that you can pick up some nice kingfish casting out a bait and hook only and let it sink slow
