newbie looking to get an ultimate 12 this month and am wondering what accessories to get

to start, i plan on using it at DFW creeks and white rock. are the skirts necessary for this type of water?

thinking about getting the anchor trolly

plan on waiting a while before getting rod holders to see where they would work out best

any suggestions?

i recently bought the native 12, and love it. I do have the skirts. Mixed emotions about them. They look great, and when fishing open, rough water, a MUST!!! But for normal lake, and especially river applications, not needed. Does make the boat seem like it gets hotter. The anchor system is a must. It's fantastic. You can position your yak easy with that system. just pull the rope and the boat repositions itself. I do have sotty's rod holders, and like them, too. I am going to make a flag and flag pole to put in the one on the back, so crazy boaters can see me better on the lake. If you buy the yak at orvis, the package comes with the skirts, an oar, and the rod holders. good deal. go see Jef at the arlington store, and tell him russell sent you. you won't be dispappointed.
happy yakking. let me know whne you get one. been fishing the brazos and just killing them lately. caught a nice smallie yesterday.
later, russell, the troutbum

I stopped by the Orvis off Northwest Hwy. They did not have any kayaks in stock. Least none that I saw.

KEEP IT VERY SIMPLE AND HAVE FUN! the second you start to over complicate things the less time you have your line in the water...

before focusing on fishing i'd really learn how your yak responds to winds, currents, waves. then i'd check your own mobility in the yak meaning how much can you move around without tossing the thing head over.

Hope you guys don't mind me chiming in as I am a Native dealer here in Austin but I invite you to join my Native Owner's Group forum. We have a lot of Ultimate 12 rigging ideas floating around. You can also view the complete line of accessories here: http://www.lwnog.com/rigging.html

Also, if there is anything I can help with, don't hesitate to ask. I am happy to help answer any questions you may have.

I agree with Zen...keep it simple! :-)

lakeline, checked out the native site, and joined up today. nice forum. also bought a few accessories today. the sling over the seat tackle box holder, and soem paddling gloves. then i saw the trolling motor accessory, i have a 35lb thrust motor already in the garage. may have to check into that for those long, windy excursions.

GOT MY ULTIMATE 12!

went to mariner sails just to get a look at the ultimate and ended up placing an order. they were out of anchor trolleys, so i just bought boat and paddle (for now anyway). took it out to the rock yesterday and broke it in with a decent LMB.

thanks for the advice ... updates to come...

picture of fish or yak?

fish picture is on the phone and i have no clue how get a picture from the phone to a computer

havent taken any pictures of the yak yet ...guess i should take some "before" pictures

i "tried" a bunch of paddles at mariner sails and bought the aqua-bound manta ray (thanks to those who posted paddle advice)

one thing i discovered tuesday - you need an anchor to fish a particular spot in a 10+ mph wind!

Here are some pictures of my Ultimate 12. It is a GREAT boat to fish out of! Very stable and very comfortable! I live in Tennessee, and go fishing on lakes and rivers every weekend. The pictures will show the accessories i have added to my boat. I am also going to add a flush mount rod holder on each triangular deck portion behind the seat for additional rods.

I'm a yak-fishing newbie, and only had my Ulitmate 12 a few weeks. Photos at:
http://bakerdesign.com/kayak2/

Nutty little movie for my grandkids at:
http://bakerdesign.com/kayak_movie/

Really like the boat!! Except for the accessory rail. Already lost two paddle holders by merely touching them with the oar, knocking them off the rail and into the deep. Cup holder has also fallen off several times, but managed to catch it so far.

The rail is a good idea but a POOR design. I bought two more paddle holders and am trying to figure out a way to make them stay in place but still be removable.

Anybody have any ideas???

albert, i have the same problem. don't like them, and don't use them. get rid of them, keep the oars in the boat, and a drink in your lap.

Great deals from a Texoma dealer going out of business. I just bought one for 650.00 out the door.....

Check out Scott Bridges' post at www.texasflyreport.com. By the way...for a flyfishing guided trip for stripers on Texoma or in the river below the dam.....Great Guide, and reasonable....

I thought this would be about the ultimate 12 accessories to have on any kayak. Oh well.

I saw one a while back at NW Hwy Orvis. Nice, but not for $1395. Under $900 sounds much better, even with adding accessories later. Besides, their catalog says gift wrapping is not available!

Hmmm... my jon boat itch may have been replaced with an Ultimate 12 itch.
