use the same thing you'd use anywhere else on the texas coast, it's not like there is a band of secret fish there eating secret things ;\)

I haven't fly fished there but it seems like a reasonable place to find some redfish up shallow. Just stalk the shallows for redfish like you would any other flat. Like Long-Haired Dave said, it doesn't really matter what you use just see what the fish biting and go with it. For starters, go with a clouser. They're pretty dependable

You need to be pretty close to or in the gulf to be fishing for those. I suppose you could catch them on the gulf side during the summer. My best bet would be the port A jetties and just look for smacks schooling.

i have seen Tarpon a couple of times in bays around where the shrimp boats dock at, two of the times were in Rock Port. but you were certainly right about the Port A jetties , starting next month they will be hot

Gray,

St. Jo (AKA San Jose Island.) is the barrier island between Port Aransas and Port O'Conner.

Yes the fishing on the backside can be great for Reds and Specks. Like the rest of the coast, it just depends on the conditions.

Spiny,
Thanks for the information and response. Learn something new every day. Hopefully, me and the wife will see it for ourselves, some day.

Thanks again,

Gray

If you are in "Port A" without a boat, there is a regular shuttle boat over there that leaves from Woody's.

The beach over there tends to be less crowded and the shell collecting is better.

There are no facilities, so bring plenty of water and some shade.

Yeah, shade and water are always a good idea. And thanks for the tip about the shuttle and shell collecting.

Oh, and does the shuttle cost anything?

The shuttle over to the North Jetty is about 10-15 per person I think. They'll give you a little card with all the times they will come back to pick anyone up. So you can stay all night and leave the next morning, or just go out for a few hours, or play it by ear.
