Are these guys easy to catch? Is it kinda like perch fishing here at any local lake? I want to catch a few small piggies on my ultralite rod and then use them later in the evening for bait. Are they good bait for reds this time of the year?

can be, if the reds are eating them. depends on whats normally thier forage at this time of year. Match the hatch.

piggy jerking is just like perch jerking. except thier fins are sharper... wash your hands off very good if you get stuck- hydrogen peroxide or alcohol would be my choice so you dont catch that bacteria in the water.

A live 2" piggy perch is super bait for almost anything that swims in saltwter. You can catch piggies with a castnet off a pier in shallow water or with a light rod with a small piece of cutbait. Trout love em too...

Go to basspro and get a sabiki rig. You can use that on a heavier rod, and tip the hooks with squid or shrimp. You don't have to tip the hooks but you'll catch more faster.

Yeah....what Earl said....you can use a sibiki rig near a jetty of pier and load up on piggie perch fairly quickly...and the trout DO love em. Lots of other critters too.
