So Me and my uncle are wade fishing the end of the Texas city dike. We are about 75 yards out or so. I notice my uncle slowly backing away and heading toward shore. He fishes this area 100 days a year. I fish it about 5 days a year. He has a very sick sense of humor but is a great guy. I notice he has his "this is going to be hillarius" smile on. I think to my self what does he have up his sleeve now.

I listen to my gut and slowly follow him in. About half way back i ask hey why we going back. He smiles and says oh no reason. I still am sure that he is messing with me so i continue to follow. Now I notice that one of the largest ocean liners Iv ever seen is heading out of the port across the bay. I yell to him, hey check that out. No reply. Then he say Alex get over here. I say why? He tells me to do it again, so i do.

Next thing i know the water level drops atleast 15 feet or so and the shallow flat we were fishing is now completly emptied. It was like in a movie. The fish and crabs etc. etc. are now flopping on dry ground. I run out in amazment. Wow look at this Holy Sh&t. The water seemed as if it had litterally been sucked out of the bay at an amazing rate. Litterally in the blink of an eye.

We had our tackle on rocks that were about 8-10 feet up from the shore line and about 4 feet up in the air. As i run around my uncle gives me the you better move your [censored] tone. So i get up to the rocks. Next I get a lesson in physics. Every action has an equal reaction. So here comes all that water again but this time it comes with the force it left with and floods the bay. It runs the water up the beach a good 15-20 feet higher then it was when we first got there.

Now im on a tackle rescue mission. Running through the violent surf to save my now floating away tackle. This was quite an expierience but had i been in the water im sure it could have been nearly instant death.

Any one else ever seen this happen. It really is amazing.

rbpwrd240,

Something similar happens out in the channel. One of the top summer spots for specs is along the Houston ship and when one of those big ships passes....well you better be in deeper water or ready to pull your anchor and move to it. The first time you see it happen, it can be terrifying and if you're shallow, can be very dangerous.
