Vacationing next week with the family and need some suggestions for family dining. Mexican, BBQ, seafood, steaks and chops. Any help would be appreciated.

Las Canarias in La Mansión del Río hotel is fantastic American cuisine. Pricey but very good food. Guenther House has excellent breakfast and lunch at very reasonable prices, and will give you a chance to see one of the older historic homes in the King William district.

On a more casual note, it's hard to beat the seafood at Sea Island. Most people order catfish and shrimp, but the snapper and redfish are very good. The ambiance isn't particularly elegant. A good chicken fried steak, blackened snapper, and grilled salmon (never fishy) can be had at 410 Diner. I always go to Montana Mike's in New Braunfels for steak. Tastes like prime beef to me, and reasonably priced (but avoid the shrimp--this isn't a seafood joint.) If you've got money to burn, there's nothing quite like Shrimp Paesano at Paesano's.

Oh, and you can get an inexpensive lunch, in an historical setting, at the Ursuline Cloisters, downtown. Los Barios seems to be the most popular Mexican restaurant.

Gotta agree with Duff1 on the seafood at Sea Island. Been eating there for years and never got a bad meal. Inexpensive too!!
For the best home-style Greek food try Mina & Demi's in the shopping center on the left past old Hwy 90 on the West end of Lackland Air Force Base.

You could kill two birds with one stone at Islamadora. They have these huge aquariums there, with all sorts of exotic fish. I go there from time to time for the Grouper Portofino. It's a grilled fillet, served with a cream sauce and topped with shrimp. The restaurant is part of the Bass Pro Shops operation.

Try Mi Tierra's in the Market Square, not necessarily for their sit down food (pretty average Tex-Mex) but, their bakery is something you can't pass up. the pralines, peanut patties, cookies, etc... are the "cats meow".

La Hacienda de Barrio on the north side. http://www.lhdlb.com/Great Tex-Mex with a huge outdoor dining area and even has a little playground for the kiddos. Weekends, there is usually some live music outside.... (not Mariachi).

Yeah, that's the place I had in mind when I mentioned Los Barrios. They draw huge crowds, mainly locals. Has anyone tried Texas Pride Barbeque, on 1604 out towards Calavaras?

I have a job going on in san Antonio and am there about once a week.
the mexican food is great. My favorite are
Mi Tiera ( large place, lost of tourist, great food and bakery, located by the market off of 35 and delarosa on the edge of downtown.
La tuna Great bar type setting and a small place but clean and family ok during the day. Best fish tacos ever. They also serve a pickled cactus as a side. i had not had it before, but it is pretty popular.
Bills burgers hard to find off 281 I think. Great burger.
bill miller BBQ they are everywhere.
Malt house Burgers on the west side, go for lunch, not dinner. at commerce and zamorosa
good luck, lots of mom and pop places that are cheap.

For a local-color-one-of-a-kind-hole-in-the-wall type place, you might want to try the Braken Cafe, just up from the Braken Feed Store, around the corner from the Hanging Tree Saloon. It's just across from the Southern Pacific tracks, where crews frequently stop their locomotives and walk over for lunch. The burgers are massive, with a huge chunk of beef. The exterior is kind of rustic, but it's very tidy inside.
