Mitch, have you ever tried the ponds behind the post office and fire station? Take a look at google maps or map quest. Use the satellite view and drill down. You will see them 2 ponds all in a row. The two further back from the houses are better. Was catching many 12" LMB back around March.
I'm seeing kayaks everywhere lately. My neighborhood pond and behind Academy over by Vista Ridge. I'm even starting to think seriously about getting one.

I fished those gravel pits about 15 years ago. We always caught good numbers of LMB.
The ponds by vista ridge don't have too many huge bass from what I've seen, BUT the one by the old medical center has some massive kitties. I almost had a rod snapped out there (if you ever see and beige alumacraft fish-n-ski out there its me, lol).
